Cool Cruiser
Here is the update...we will return to San Juan once clearance is granted. Guests are welcome to stay on the ship in San Juan until Sunday. All guests will receive a full refund of the cruise, all pre paid shore excursions and gratuities will also be refunded. Guests will also receive 50% off a future 2 to 7 day cruise. If we do not receive clearance from the coast guard by 9:00 pm, Carnival will arrange travel from St Thomas to our homes.
Sounds like the official word that came down on the ship is this:

Well...........seems there was more damage then originally thought, however that is not unusual in the ship fire, especially in the engine room.
That's seems pretty generous from Carnival as well......Texas, you know how I feel about Carnival, but how many times!

The bends from CO2, now that's a new one!............LOL

I was thinking the same thing. Theres either more damage then we think or the parts aren't readily available but will be in a few days. In the mean time, they can vacate the pier in St Thomas to create room. I think Carnival is doing an outstanding job of keeping people informed and minimizing the impact.
I wish I could say Im surprised by the CO2 bends comment, but Im not. I wish I knew who taught him confined space because d really like to have a few words with his instructor.
I know, I was thinking the same thing. Then again, they've got 23 ships, things are bound to go wrong. I think you just hear about it more on Carnival. Here is John Heald's post on FB a minute ago:
CARNIVAL LIBERTY STATEMENT
September 8, 2015 – 5pm EDT
The Carnival Liberty continues to remain in St. Thomas following an engine fire that occurred yesterday while the ship was docked there during a scheduled port of call visit. The ship’s command is presently awaiting permission from authorities to sail.
Once the vessel departs, it is scheduled to return to its homeport of San Juan. Guests will have the option of remaining on board through the rest of the week and exploring San Juan or disembarking and traveling home. If clearance to depart St. Thomas is not received by later this evening, the company will move forward with arrangements to fly all guests home from St. Thomas.
All guests are being provided with a full refund of their cruise as well as a 50 percent discount on a future cruise. This is in addition to a $150 per person credit that has already been applied to guests’ shipboard accounts.
There were no injuries to guests or crew as a result of the fire which was extinguished by the ship’s automated suppression system. All hotel services including air conditioning, elevators, toilets, galleys, etc. are fully functional and the ship's normal array of activities, entertainment, dining options and programming are being offered.
We apologize to our guests for this unexpected disruption to their vacation and the inconvenience they are experiencing.
Carnival Liberty departed San Juan on Sunday for a seven-day Caribbean cruise with 3,346 guests and 1,150 crew on board.
@truck1 , presumably the CO2 would be liquified to maximize storage? If CO2 were being pumped aboard, you would see ice on the pipes and some vapor? And two trucks worth? Thats a hell of a lot of CO2!
I would think it is potable water since the mains haven't been running, no flash/reverse osmosis facilities and as the ship is operational, possibly off loading black water as well?
EDITED.
Looking back, there have been 5 reported fires on Carnival ships over the past 20 years,
Celebration, 1995 - engine room, Ecstasy, 1998 - laundry, Splendour, 2010 - engine room, Triumph, 2013 - engine room, and now Liberty, 2015 - engine room.
In the same time period, Royal have had 5 also,
Enchantment, 1999 - engine room, Majesty, 2005 - Galley, Allure, 2012 - engine room, Grandeur, 2013 - aft mooring deck, Freedom, 2015 - smoke stack.
Not sure how reliable the source is since Disney's isn't mentioned....

Well said!People are just more aware of Carnival because they're so big/have been around so long.
RCCL had an engine room fire a few weeks ago, IIRC.
