We were supposed to go this past June, but had to reschedule, due to DD braces. (darn teeth).

Please come back and let us know how it was. We have been on the Disney Wonder, but nothing else. I am so jealous you get to go in August. Have a great time.

We will try. They had such a good deal I couldn't pass it up. Was planning on Royal Caribbean to be the next cruise but oh well. Hope it isn't too much of a party ship.

I hope this allowed. But when I was planning our Hawaiian cruise I used Cruise Critic for information. I have learned so much from other people who have cruised.

I have been on the Carnival Dream (twice) :thumbsup2 Had a great time both times.

I've not been on any Disney Cruises so I can't compare, but I can answer any specific questions you have.
Are you headed Eastern or Western?

I also recommend checking out cruisecritic if you haven't been there already.

We're going on the Dream next Saturday (the 17th)! I can't wait! I'll try to remember to come back and let you know how it was, but I must warn you that I'm one of those people who thinks that any day on a cruise ship is better than a day at the office! :woohoo:

In other words, I LOVE :lovestruc: vacations!

I forgot to ask you if you are doing the eastern or western trip? We are on the eastern, so we go to Nassau, St. Thomas and St. Martin. We also have 3 days at sea (which I love).

The last cruise DH and I went on was a southern Caribbean and we had a port every day for 7 days. We got to see great places, but it wasn't relaxing per say, so this time, we wanted something more laid back, so we chose this one.

Carnival does have a reputation of being a party boat, with the most 20-30 years on them. I'll admit, when they stop off in Cayman, there are a noticeable number of young men and women on the island than the other boats. They don't seem to overwhelm the boat, but there are a good number of them. The Royal Caribbean boats seem to have mostly families.

We went on a Disney cruise for our first ever cruise and were spoiled! They are amazing and the service hard to beat.

So when we went on our Carnival cruise we went in with high expectations and were dissappointed. It was an all right cruise but not like Disney.

The food was not as good and neither were the staterooms. We stayed in a lower cabin with a porthole on Disney and thought the room was great - we stayed in a so called "suite" with a balcony and I would have traded for the stateroom on the Wonder.

That being said we were away and at sea! But I would spend the extra for a different cruise line.

I am lurking in the cruise critic

Our cruise is listed as an "exotic" western. Not my favorite ports but have found excursions that I think we would like. Stops are : Cozumel, Isla Rotan, Belize, Costa Maya.

With the military rate got a suite for an inside cabin price.

The guy in the piano bar now and for the next several months is Jason Davis. He is great, totally made our cruise. Show gets adult after 11:00, but he is a very talented piano player and singer, and is fantastic at interacting with the crowd!

Call me crazy but I actually prefer Carnival over Disney for cruising

That's the exact cruise we did a couple months ago!!! It was fantastic.
Cozumel we did a dolphin swim @ Chankanaab
Roatan we did the Clip & Zip and then Mahogany Beach
Belize we did ruins
Costa Maya my DD8 had extreme sun poisioning....I left her with grandma for a few minutes & saw the port area - thats about it.

The Dancing in the Streets show was our favorite. We went to both showings. Get there early to get a good seat. :thumbsup2

Not all Carnival ships are "party" cruises. I would expect that out of a 3-5 day on the Fantasy...not on the Dream. It is what you make of it.

i haven't been on the dream, but i've done 3 cruises with carnvial. haven't done a disney cruise, so i can't compare, but the cruises are really fun!

i've been to couzamel...the underwater helmet dive (i can't think of the exact name) but you put on these helmets and the air tubes keep the water from coming above your neck. you can breathe normally and wear your glasses under water. that was really cool. you can take pics and they take pics for you to buy the cd afterwards.

senior frogs is pretty fun too. ;)

costa maya we did the tour of the area. it was nice. then the hurricane hit and we didn't get to go back on our last cruise.

DO NOT do the playa mia beach excursion. the water was brown. and once you got in the water, it's rocks. like giant boulders underwater you cant see.

the blue water was at least 10 miles out and the food served was on the cr@ppy side.

have a great time! totally jealous cause i wanna go on another cruise!

Thanks. Was looking at the Playa Mia beach excursion but decided against it. On our Disney cruise did the swim with dolphins so this time we are doing the zipline and snorkal.

We are doing the cave tubing at Belize.

We've done 6 Disney cruises, 2 NCL, 1 RCCL and 1 Carnival. I would go on another Carnival with no hesitation.

We were on the Liberty which is a little smaller than the Dream. I like the Dream's layout, especially the cove balcony cabins. The only strange part will be Deck 3 which doesn't allow you to walk all the way through it since it is the dining rooms and galley. The decor was a little bit glitzy for my taste. I was amazed at the variety of entertainment throughout the ship. The comedians were very funny, although I'll give you a warning: if it says adult comedy, it really is very raunchy! Hilarious, but raunchy.

As to the food, I thought the food was better on Carnival than on any of our other cruises. They now also have any-time dining, or something like that so you don't have to do the meal at the same time, same table, etc. (this wasn't an option when we were on the Liberty). We didn't go to any specialty restaurants because we were happy with the food in the dining room

Our cruise had lots of families on it. The ships are large with lots of people, so I felt a little crowded in the buffet restaurant, although if you go up the stairs to the second level, there are usually more seats available. I didn't like dis-embarkation; lots of standing in line and waiting unlike on Disney.

I'm looking at the Dream for our next vacation.

Thanks, with all the posts I am feeling better about choosing Carnival.

Hi! I'm on the same cruise the same date
We usually always saild RCCL but for the price, decided to give CCL Dream a try for my dd's Sweet 16 with her girlfriend.

Are you familiar with the cruisecritic board?
It is just like the disboards but for cruises.
You will be able to find out ANYTHING you want to know about the Dream and, if you want, meet people that are on your sailing.

Where are you staying precruise or are you flying in day of cruise.
My familiy thinks we are booked at the Raddison at the Port but I booked a 2 bedroom at the BWVs as a surprise for my family (since it is also my dh and mine 20th wedding anniversary present). I have the girls going to Epcot (purchased one day passes) and my dh, ds (12) and I will be going to Yachtsman Steakhouse (saved $200 for that meal too as a surprise).

What kind of cabin did you book? We booked a balcony with the girls across from us in an inside on Deck 8 aft.

Let me know if you have specific questions and definately head over to cruisecritic.com.
Happy Planning!

We are staying at the Radisson on Friday.

We have booked a suite, 7368 Empress deck. My daughter is 11 so close to your DS. We did the Disney Magic in 2007 so will be interested to see how they compare.
