Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ's Part II

Just returned from CBR! We were there Sept.27-Oct.2.

Amazing!!! Loved it!

We were in Jamaica with a courtyard view and lovely walk to Old Port Royale. I had been hoping that we would have received a waterview without paying for an upgrade, but in actual fact the courtyard was also quite lovely.

We used buses throughout our stay and had no complaints. Most waits were no more than 5 mins or so leaving CBR and no more than 10mins at closing time at the Parks coming home.

Yes, it can be more of a hike from a room to the bus stop as opposed to your rental car (depending on where you are parked!). However, put it in perspective with how much walking you will be doing in the Parks and IMO it is a non-issue.

What I did not care for and wouldn't use again was Magical Express unless I was checking into a hotel located in basically one central place. I did find the 20 min wait outside in hot sun after a 7 hour plane ride (we just missed a bus) to be difficult.

I also didn't appreciate the 3 hour advance arrival to the airport. Totally and completely unnecessary!

But back to the good stuff. Pools, rooms, resort was great. Food court food was not so good, and I say this as someone who is definitely NOT a picky eater. Portions were large and price decent, but food itself was sufficient but nothing more. Except the scrambled eggs - those were actually quite good. (Also, I should say that the only meals we eat there was breakfast).

As far as the beds, I found them to be just about the most comfortable beds we have had. While our beds did squeek, I barely noticed it as I was marvelling at how comfortable the beds were and what a great sleep I was about to have.

I did not mind the large nature of the report, nor did I find it was a large hardship having to ride around the resort picking people up and dropping off on the buses.

That said, I did find it inconvenient that the check-in building was not at least in the food court building. To add to the problem, if you wanted assistance from a conceirge, you had to do it in person. I am sorry, but if the check-in house is located far away from anything else you should not insist that your guests travel all the way there for conceirge service or to mail a letter. That I did not like.

Overall I fell in love with this resort. It is so pretty, picturesque and a great place to visit. Can't wait for my next return!:goodvibes

Leaving in 2 days!!

There is a conceirge service and a mailbox located next to the arcade in the food court. You don't have to go all the way to the check- in house.

Mailbox is great, but what I needed was a US stamp to get to Canada. Only place to buy that was check-in house. As a result, my letters could not be mailed until our last day while waiting for the "magical" express.

We just got back today, and we loved CBR!! We were in Jamaica, very close to the bus stop and it was a lovely walk to Old Port Royale (though we did wimp out and use the car a couple of times to get food).

We liked the food court food okay, and really liked Shutters (we ate there twice). I have pictures of the resort and our room that I'll post later, since I'm too tired to right now (that 9 hour drive makes me very sleepy).

I'm not sure if we will stay at CBR next time, only because this was our first experience staying in the World... but we will definatly be back at some point.

:goodvibes Here are some resort pictures from our stay

I have a really different question. I know from reading this thread that if you call the resort main number, you will wind up getting answered by a call center, so what number do I give my family at home for an emergency number. My father is in the end stages of cancer and we know he is very ill, but we are still planning to travel, so I need to provide my mom with a phone number to reach us in the event of an emergency with my dad. Can anyone give me a number to give them? We will have cells with us, but we don't always carry them with us and we really only check voice meail on them once a day. Any help will be appreciated.

First, thanks to everyone on this thread who posted pics and great reviews.

I am soooooo glad that we gave CBR a try. We just got back yesterday after a wonderful 8 day stay. It was our first time at this resort. We loved it so much I made a bounceback ressie for the same time next year. :thumbsup2

We arrived on Magical Express. Our arrival at the airport until the time we arrived at our resort was quick and easy. The line at check in was huge. We we were in and out with our room keys in about 15 minutes. I was really impressed. Bell services arrived with our bags about 4 hours later along with our groceries from Garden Grocer. No complaints there either.

Our room was in Trinidad South. After reading many reviews of this resort, I was apprehensive about the room location but decided to go with it. I am so glad we did. It was a very quiet and beautiful location. Mousekeeping was awesome. No towel animals, but the room was spotless when we returned each day.

It was a very nice walk to Old Port Royale. My kids loved the main pool and also spent time in the quiet pool at our location. DH loved the Banana Cabana. :drinking1 The food was really quite good at the food court. We also had the pleasure of eating dinner one night at Shutters and we thought it was very good. One of our best meals of the trip.

I also thought the bus transportation was really great, quite efficient. We never had a long wait at all.

All and all, our experience at CBR was very good, and we can not wait to return.

New CBR fan!

The operator can connect to resort rooms and each room has voice mail ~ and when they know the reason for the call they will do everything they can to help.

I would call home and give them the direct resort number and room number after you arrive.

I am so sorry to read about your dad. I have been there and understand; Will hold your family near in prayer.

I know they are closing the main pool for several months, but does anyone know what they are actually doing to it??? :confused3

Denise

I have heard nothing official. As soon as I do it will be posted in the first post of this thread.

Excellent! Thanks!

safetymom, I have a question for you? This past week, I saw what looked like a bald eagle flying over the water outside of Trinidad South. I grew up in the mountains near Yosemite and have seen many over the years, a family of them lived across the lake from my house. Unfortunately, I was a bit further away and could not clarify that was what it was. What are the chances? It was pretty awesome. Wished I had a good zoom lens. :)

Denise

It could have been an eagle. I will have to go down with my trusty zoon lens and check it out. :)

Hello, we will be renting an electric scooter, so will need a ground level room. I am wondering if anyone knows where the handicap accessible rooms are at CBR?

Thanks!

We actually changed our request from Jamaica to Trinidad South because it will just be hubby and I and we were hoping for a quieter location. So glad to hear you enjoyed it.

And it sounds like you didn't mind the walk from TS to Olde Port Royale or the pool. That's good to hear. Hubby and I both walk a lot, so we figure we won't mind too much either.

I'm stopping in to say thank you for all of the tips! We leave tomorrow morning and I know I am so much more excited about this resort because of the information shared.

It is hard to "picture" a resort and all of the features but with the help of the CBR DIS'ers I can "see" where I am going to stay.

I think it would be perfect for you. We have stayed at values, other moderates and deluxes, and this time, we actually felt like we were relaxed and really on vacation. We also would be the only ones down on the beach alot of the times. It was really wonderful down there, kicking back on the hammock while my kids played. My kids are 5 and 7 and the walk to them was an adventure, chalk full of birds (thanks for making an appearance Mr. Bald Eagle), turtles, fish and other various critters running about. :) I know people say it is really spread out, but I thought the walk at CSR was much longer and not as scenic. This walk was not bad at all. I think there was one time the kids didn't want to walk back after swimming their butts off at Old Port Royale, and since Trinidad South is the last stop, a nice bus driver on her way to Downtown Disney gave us a ride.

It was all good. :thumbsup2 I hope you enjoy your trip.
