Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ Part 3

They are usually very good with reopening on time. There wasn't a temp slide at Trinidad North. There was one at Barbados, but I will have to look at my pics but I think it was removed already.

My mom and I will be heading to CBR in January. Thinking about the buildings, has anyone stayed in Jamaica or Aruba? It seems like they are fairly close to OPR, if you can walk through Caribbean Cay to the other side. Is that possible? TIA!

:thanks:

Yes, you can walk through Caribbean Cay from Jamaca and Aruba -- it's a very pleasant walk. Depending on where in Jamaica or Aruba you are the walk will be between 675 and 1675 feet (a 3-10 minute walk)

"There are no elevators in any buildings at CBR. If your BIL has a documented health problem call WDW Special Reservations at 407-939-7807 and they can guarantee you a first floor room. The regular reservations line cannot do this."

I was told that the only way to be assured a first floor room is to secure a handicapped accessible room. Otherwise it could not be guaranteed. Is this not true? Can the special reservations people reserve you a first floor if it's not a handicapped room? I have a scooter but I don't need an accessible room because I can walk inside the room.

One other question. I read somewhere that they have a wheechair accessible van at check-in to take you and your luggage to your room. Is that so? Will they drive us to our room in a van that they can load a scooter on? I've only ever seen those golf cart type things at the other Disney resorts I've been to, and I'm sure those won't transport a scooter. Do they have an actual van that can take my scooter?

Here is a link to the CBR map. The best buildings to request are Jamaica 45 (my favorite) or Aruba 51.

I think Aruba's renovation is about finished. Tonite, they are putting up barriers in the Jamaica Parking lot like the one in Aruba, where they stockpile new furniture and stuff..............

And for those worried about housekeeping in Bldg 41, 5 nites down, 5 days of normal housekeeping, including beds being made.

This is weird because during our stay Nov. 12-16th we stayed in Jamaica 44 and they were starting to remove items from rooms in Jamaica 45. When we were hauling our luggage to our vehicles a CBR worker in a green truck asked us which rooms we were vacating because they were earmarking rooms for items to be removed. Oh well...thought I was giving updated information. LOL

Did they have the caribbean music piped back in to Caribbean Cay?? It wasn't on during our stay and I really missed it.

I think I saw somewhere back in this thread that you can walk from CBR to Epcot. You went pass a Hess Station to do that iirc. Is there a minimart at that station and does anyone know what all they sell there? TIA :goodvibes

Yay!!!! We are walking out the door to the airport, be there in 4 hours!!!! I can't wait, we were too excited to sleep!!!!!:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

I posted but no one's responded yet - I was wondering if anyone knows the answer to my questions? I'll post them below:

CBR's Bell Services has actual full-size vans.

However, there's no guarantee they'll be able to take you and your luggage to your room as soon as you arrive. If they are totally swamped, they may offer to transport your luggage to your room a little later. In that case, the way you'd get to your room (if it doesn't happen to be easy walking distance from the Custom House, such as if the room is in Barbados) would be the internal shuttle bus, which is a full-sized Disney Transport bus (the same buses that take you to the parks, only this one is tasked to shuttle around CBR's 8 bus stops). The buses, of course, can accomodate scooters.

Thanks Cleverocks! Do you know if the full size vans can actually take a scooter?

Also did you happen to know about the securing of a first floor room? Can it be guaranteed if you don't need a special accessible room?

Call the Special Reservations Department at 407-934-7639 and explain your specific situation, and they will tell you what they can do for you. There are different kinds of accessible rooms and various other ways they can accommodate you.

Is the Martinique bldg a preferred bldg? We stayed there on our last stay and really loved our room location! It think it was bldg. 23.

When my family was there the week of Thanksgiving we were upgraded to Martinique, building 24 and it is a preferred building.

We just checked into CBR this morning (from POR).....we're in Jamaica 43 and there are three trucks (1 of them is the cargo part of an 18 wheeler size...other two are large rental type size) removing furniture from 44. Too bad we couldn't get a newer room....this one literally stinks. There is some funky odor everytime we come into the room. I propped the door open with a chair while we unpacked and settled in, about 2 hours, and tonight when we got back from dinner it still had a funky smell. If it's still there tomorrow I think I'll ask about a different room. It's not too bad after you've been inside for a while, but it's not a pleasant way to return home.

Other than that, we really love it here. The bright colors are so cheerful, the staff has been very very friendly, and our window is all decked out so it's just fun to walk up to the room (until you open the door and it stinks, lol).

And I have to say that I really like the food court here much better than at POR or POFQ......the quality is better and the selection is definitely wider.

Preferred is an additional $25 a night, the price difference is the same for a Water View, King, and/or Pirate Themed room. A water view pirate room is an additional $50 a night.

I'm reading a lot about "furniture spotting" for the nemo remodel... but has anyone seen anything in regards to Trinidad South and the pirate rooms? We're planning on staying in one in May... and I'm obsessively curious :surfweb:

Disneyin2008:
Thanks so much for the update. Can't imagine what the smell could be... but definately let someone know! Perhaps while your at the parks they can do a full cleaning/bring in one of the heavy duty fans to take care of it to prevent you from the hassel of changing rooms.

We love the CBR food court... it's our favorite and we'd agree that it's an improvement over POR's and POFQ's.
