Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ Part 3

Just back tonight from a 5 night stay at Caribbean Beach. To any that might have reservations based on some disgruntled posts....we had an absolutely beautiful time! It was beyond our expectations. Very clean. Very lush grounds. Great scenery and hidden nooks...food was awesome. Very, very pleased with our experience from check-in, phone in room information, to bell services at check-out. Very magical experience!

Glad to hear you had a good time. We've always found it to be that way, too.:thumbsup2

We had a brief one night stay at CBR this weekend. We arrived on the Magic on 9/6 and then eneded up booking a room for one night due to flight issues. CBR was the only available spot, and we had a enjoyable stay.

We stayed at CBR in 2005 and loved it, but this brief stay was a real reminder of just how lovely this resort is. We have stayed at POFQ the last 3 years for practical reasons (small resort) but I really LOVE the theming of CBR - what a gorgeous resort!

We stayed in Martinque 25 (preferred building) and we had one of the newly decorated Nemo rooms which thrilled my three year old. The theming is sweet and understated and our rooms were clean and in good repair.

Saturday evening we enjoyed playing in the sand and playgrounds and had a nice dinner in the foodcourt. We could not swim (suits were in the luggage that the airline kept when our flight plans were altered), but we did get a peak at the new pool on Sunday morning.

Wow, what a great pool area this will be when open! The new bigger size is nice, the hot tub enormous compared to the old one, and the pirate play area at the kid pool is knock you socks off!

I hope for those traveling soon that the pool is open soon. I thought at first glance the pool was open because we could see heads swimming, but when we got closer we could see that it was only lifeguards and they were conducting some sort of training - thought that was a good sign. We also saw a guy conducting water tests in both areas.

I am at CBR, as previously stated. Disney is still very hush hush about the pool opening.
After watching all the "Brass" walk around the pool for 2 hours, and hearing that they had passed all of the County Inspections earlier in the day, the word is...............................the official pool opening will be at 10:00 Tuesday Morning (tomorrow). Last night they had a midnight crew come out and touch up this and that. This morning the shipwreck in the kiddie pool was running. As of 6 pm today, the chairs are on the deck, and except for one small piece of construction equipment, the deck is clear. Supposedly, we will get voice mails to our rooms when it is official. Painful, ain't it?

Hope someone can help me with a few questions... we are thinking of CBR for our January trip. It will be my DS - who turns 16, his friend (15), my mom and myself. My mom has a handicap (although she will insist she doesn't).. her one leg fills with fluid and doesn't bend after undergoing cancer treatments. While she can do some walking it is exhausitng for her. I will pay for a preferred room but not sure where to request... we would need a first floor room since there are no elevators and she can't bend her leg.. but I want to be close to the pool and the marina for the boys... yes I want a lot..hehe... I am planning on booking thru AAA because at this point they have the best deal (by about $400)... so I think they would have to make the "requests" for me... would appreciate anything you can tell me about where to stay.... also what fun things there might be for two teenage boys....

thanks

We just got back from CBR Sunday. All the construction equipment and blockades have been removed from the pool area. They are probably just waiting for the final inspection, could open any day now.

Couple pieces of advice I would offer. First, I absolutely would not book with AAA. We used them in 2005 when we booked at CBR and they were so not knowledgeable about this resort. They did not even know a preferred section existed! I finally convinced them that it did, paid and booked preferred rooms, and 6 weeks out get new paper work that showed regular rooms - what??? I was so not happy. Original paperwork showed preferred and somehow rooms were found, but it was a huge hassle.

If you want the AAA discount, you can still book through Disney (I waited too long and they had no AAA rooms available so I used my local office). If you cannot book directly through Disney, find a knowledgeable Disney travel agent from AAA. I have read recommendations on these boards and you can use any AAA agent with your membership. Shop wisely for a good agent.

I think your requests are simple to meet. Paying for th preferred section should take care of almost all your needs as far as location and that will mean a simple request for first floor. You may even be able to make the request for medical reasons (though others will know more about that issue than I).

At CBR, the definition of preferred location is a room in one of the six buildings closest to Old Port Royale, which includes, among other things, the main pool and ther marina.

Any new pool opening news to be reported? Hope to be swimming in it next week!

Well...................it's 6 pm and no pool opening yet. They are in there working feverishly, but there are still some bugs. While the County is happy, the Reedy Creek Inspectors are not. The last missed opening was 5 pm, and it looked good. They even had lifeguards in there, but...................
Will post again when something changes.

We were told today, after calling the resort and CRO, that the pool would not open until Sept 14th. When it does open, the slide will close at 10pm while the pool and hot tubs will remain open until midnight.

Good luck, I hope it opens sooner for you!

This is incorrect, the pool/slide/hot tubs/pirate play area will all be closed and locked at 10pm.

Keep in mind that you are talking with a call center not the actual resort. They most likely don't have the up to date information.

FYI - I tried to use the AAA discount when booking directly with Disney, I didn't want to book thru AAA because I had heard it was not advisable. According to the Disney rep I spoke to their 'contract' with AAA will not allow them to apply a AAA discount, you have to book with AAA directly.

I don't know if this is true, I have had different reps give conflicting information about various things (very frustrating when the the question is very straight forward).

I would call Disney directly, if you feel that the answer doesn't seem right ask for a supervisor.

OK, a few thoughts for you.... yes, definitely pay for the preferred room, and then put in a request for a first floor room -- explain why. They really try to accomodate needs.

The preferred location gets you close to the pool and marina and food court. As for the boys, I have a DS17 and a DS14 and CBR is their favorite resort -- here's why: beaches, hammocks, beach chairs, lots of pools, boat rentals, bike rentals, the food court, game arcade, bus stops close to every room, and on and on and on -- the kids will love it!!!

Have a great time!!:cool1:

There are very solid, very definite facts here.

You can get the AAA discount on a ROOM-ONLY reservation no matter how you book. You can get the AAA ROOM-ONLY discount if you book directly through Disney, and even if you book through any travel agent.

However, if you want to get the AAA discount on a PACKAGE reservation, then you must book through AAA and only through AAA.

These are dead solid facts, not opinions.

Either you asked about booking a package, or the CM thought you were trying to book a package.

Decided to just hop a cab after I check in to get our small order of supplies.....bottled water and beer/liquor (DH needs his Manhattan!). Anyway, I know Goodings is the closest and most expensive. I don't really care about saving a few bucks if the next store is a lot further away. Anyone know whether there is a liquor/grocery store that is close to Goodings and CBR? Anyone with an idea of what a cab will cost? TIA for any replies!
