Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ Part 3

Regarding the Jim Hill rumors. I got to see one of the new rooms at CBR today. I looked through the window in Martinique. The room looks like the pictures. It was a Nemo themed room. They still have the old carpeting. The bed has a bed skirt now.

As far as the fridge, there is a chest of drawers with a door that looks like that is where the fridge goes. I have stayed in other hotels with that same arrangement so I don't think the fridge is gone.

The bedspread has the same colors as before but different characters on it. They have a flat screen TV in the rooms.

So they are doing a refurb then?? If they are refurbing the rooms I might switch from CSR to CBR. Since they have a new pool and I can book preferred might be a wise choice. Thanks for posting this.

Wow, I'm surprised they really are going with Nemo theme. I really don't care for the Nemo wall paper border.

To me it really doesn't look that bad from what I could see looking through the window.

we're going early October - we booked a preferred room and I requested Martinique as our preference (as opposed to Trinidad). How long do room refurbs usually take? I'd hate to be in a building that's in mid rehab - with all the workers coming and going....

Thanks safetymom...I am disppointed. By the looks of the photos, it's more of a value theme than Caribbean Beach...this has been one of my favorite resorts since it opened in 1988, but quite honestly, if that's what all the new rooms look like then I'll not be staying at CBR anytime soon.

Am also disappointed it is more of a light refurbishment compared to what FQ and POR/AB went through back in 2004 - essentially gutted, new everything -almost...bathrooms are the same, but everything else was brand new.

That carpeting is pretty old and the palms certainly do not match Nemo...sigh....well, nothing to do, but stay elsewhere...was sure looking forward to a CBR stay soon and again next yr after the refurb...will probably switch our August stay.:sad2:

Even the ALLStars have new carpeting..wonder if there is new shower curtains at CBR.

I have no idea. I was there during working hours and I didn't hear any noise. It looks like they are starting in Martinique so it should be finished by the time you get there.

Which room was it in Martinique? Do you think it was ready for a guest or still under renovation?

I called Disney and changed my request to Martinique (we have a preferred location booked). When I asked about refurbs/renovations, she said they didn't know anything about it.

Pictures of the newly refurbished rooms in Martinique. I took these pictures through the window with my small camera. Notice the bed now has a bed skirt. This is a Nemo themed room, notice the border. The chest of drawers on the left has a door and I assume that is where the fridge is. Also they have flat screen TV's on the chest of drawers.

I walked past a number of them with the new theme. I was at the 24 building closest to the parking lot.

They sure looked ready to go to me.

I know it's just a request but I think I'll call and ask for a room in Martinique Building 24. I really want a Nemo room. I always request an upstairs room but don't know if the upstairs rooms are refurbed already. What do you think?

Great detective work Safetymom. We can always count on you to keep us disers up to date!:worship: :worship: :worship:

Safetymom, thank you so much for posting the photos....okay, so Martinique rooms have been painted a new color, bedskirt looks nice, the privacy curtain is a new color...does not look as bad as I thought..but maybe that's due to the 'soft focus' of the photo ;)

Pineapple bedposts still there... (well, we call them pineapple bed posts!)..sooo...wonder why no new carpeting....hmm, rooms are being refurbished, but cannot wrap my mind around why AllStars would get more of a refurb than CBR (of course, I LOVE CBR and would not stay at an AllStar;) )

Great job, safetymom! :thumbsup2 Did it appear even a little gaudy?

I notice the armoire/television cabinet looks smaller than the ones in the old rooms. Did it look like it had the same amount of storage space or could you even tell?

From the Jim Hill photo it looks like there may be a bit less drawer space - especially if half is actually a cabinet for a fridge.

The old amoire had good sized drawers and a shelf beneath the TV, so lots of room for small items. Also room on the sides of the TV....I think there was a shelf...am I remembering correctly?:upsidedow

Safetymom ~

Excellent detective work - even pictures!! I knew you would be all over it!! I'm going to be at CBR next week and I'm taking a walk over there myself to see if I can see through a window!!

I have stayed at CBR probably about 15 times, starting when the resort first opened many years ago. I'm not a big Nemo fan, but the room looks good. I thought the curtains in the photos that were posted the other day looked cute - sort of being underwater or something! I notice that there is not an armoire (sp) anymore. Could you tell how much storage there is in the chest of drawers? Also, is the bench still in the room? I use that bench all the time when I'm there for storing clothes on and laying out my outfits.

Thanks,

Carol

I just asked safetymom the same questions as I was wondering the same thing!! I think I will miss the armoire - especially if the dresser houses the fridge too!! I always put my clothes in the drawers. I don't think there was a shelf in the armoire. The only thing on the armoire that I didn't like were the doors because sometimes they wouldn't stay opened all the way and they would be in the way.

It looks like less storage space. Now that you mention it I don't think the bench was there. I will let you know when I go back over with the better camera. :)

Ohh, I liked that bench too!! It was wonderful for bags, laying out clothes, whatever...and hanging jackets on the hooks above..or sometimes a wet towel..

That bench was one of the things I loved about CBR - Carol, we've been staying there since it opened too...as much as I like a water/beach theme and the curtains appear cute and rather soothing, but what about the bright and happy Caribbean theme? That's what I just don't get - why did Disney do away with already perfect theme - Caribbean Beach???

Oh, wait! Safetymom - looks like the bed lights are the same...did you happen to notice?

What would we do without you??
