Caribbean Beach or Doubletree **UPDATE**

We were only there three nights, so we turned the AC down and got the room cold. It helped with the smell. We knew we were heading to the AKL-concierge next, so we just sucked it up. We only paid $66/night and got the free tickets to SW as well.

After staying Polynesian, OKW, BWV, BCV, AKL, CSR, POFQ, Swan, Wyndham Palace, I would have chosen any of them over the Doubletree.

The front desk staff were okay. It was no different than staying in a plain old hotel in Anytown USA. The cookies you get when you check in were so-so. Sure wouldn't have paid extra for them.

It just seemed so worn out and dank.

But if I had the choice of staying there or not going at all, I'd stay there.

I was still bothered by me treatment at the Front Desk at the Doubletree. I guess the reason it bothered me was that I was still not sure that I didn't want to stay there because of the extra space, data lines, fridge and microwave, etc.

I called this morning to speak to the General Manger and he couldn't have been any nicer to me or more surprised at his Front Desk. He said he had recently taken over as General manager and that they knew they had some issues to be resolved, but he did not think that the Front Desk personnel was one of them. He seemed to genuinely appreciate my call telling what had happened.

I let him know I had not cancelled my reservation yet, and he assured me that if I would given them a chance that he would make sure all was more than perfect with our room.

So, I am still torn as to what to do.

I stayed at the Doubletree last Nov for a conference at the Hilton. (Of course I also enjoyed as much of WDW as I could after hours.) Neither hotel charged for self-parking.

The rooms at the Doubletree are MUCH larger than those at CBR. They are roughly the same size as Embassy Suites (about 600 sq ft) but the furnishings aren't as nice. The bedroom is small but the living room is huge. It's not the best Doubletree I've seen, but it's a solid 3-star/3-diamond hotel. The hotel is not brand new and shows its age a little but is by no means "rundown". I did not have any problem with the condition of my room.

The front desk personnel were very friendly and helpful to me. I think you may have been expecting a lot to be shown a room as a walkin. While they certainly could have handled your request better, during busy times it may not have been possible.

Like other DTD hotels, the "magic" is limited but not altogether absent. You get the Disney info channel on the TV, there are park maps and ticket sales in the lobby, and the landscaping is very nice.

I have to disagree about the cookies! Anyone who thinks they are ordinary must really know where to buy cookies.

Thanks Eric, I appreciate hearing your experience at the Doubletree. I will say that in my conversation with the General Manager this morning, he said that my request could have been honored and that they were not at 100% capacity this weekend when I was there.

I am not looking for Disney "magic" at this hotel. Just a very reasonably priced room with extra space and the convenience of the microwave and the fridge. I just don't want to be concerned that when I crawl into the bed at night or when I take a shower that I will feel that it isn't that clean.

Have stayed at Doubletree and it was very nice. Will be staying there again in September. Check out mousesavers.com they are offering $79 per night deal. The downside is it is not themed like the Disney resorts, it is just a hotel. We have stayed onsite many times. Wanted to have the extra space and the kitchenette this time. Hope this is helpful for you. Enjoy no matter what you decide.

Where on mousesavers.com is the discount.

Thanks

Found it and made my reservations

We have stayed at numerous hotels over the year, both on and off-site. I would not stay at Doubletree again. It was dated and dirty. I can't believe it was sold out! We were there 9/2002, and they only had 2 floors occupied. The pool was also dirty and old. We are Hilton honor members, and it was worse than any Hampton Inn we have visited.

I have not stayed at the CBR, but had stayed at Coronado and POR. While the rooms are not as big, who is in the room that much anyway!
