We enjoyed CBR but will not return because many buildings are far from the main building, Old Port Royale (OPR) that has the only food services, gift shop, and the very nice main pool. We were lucky to get a standard room (Jamaica 45) not far from OPR but I wouldn't take a chance again without booking a preferred room that's closer to OPR. Then again, if spending more money for that, I might as well go deluxe at Animal Kingdom Lodge or Wilderness Lodge.
We liked the pool very much. But I'd rather stay at a value resort and use some of the saved money for water park passes.
Transportation
While the buses were fairly prompt 5 - 15 minutes, the buses make a stop at every building before leaving the resort to head to the park. The good part is our building was usually the first drop off and pick up. The down side was when picked up, the bus stopped at all 6 other buildings before leaving the resort and heading to the park. Taxis were prompt when I called.
The Room
Requested 2nd floor, close to Old Port Royald (OPR). Preferred room was not available to book when we changed our reservation. At check-in, was told our room was immediately available in building 13 in Barbados...I begged for a room closer to OPR and said we were willing to wait until as late as 9pm to get in the room. It took 20 minutes for the CM to see what could be done, but did get us in Jamaica Building 45, a corner room 2nd floor partially facing the water. Yeah!!! This was an easy walk over the bridge to the pool and OPR. Carpet tacks were sticking through the carpet (ouch!) but were fixed when I complained. Housekeeping service was great. I hear they might change the beds later this year to queen size. That would give this resort and advantage over the value resorts.
The Pool
Loved the main pool. DS6 had a great time on the pirate pool area where the bucket fills and dumps water and on the 2 slides at the adjacent, larger pool. The pool is especially nice at night and we played some pretend like pirate games in the water. The slides are only open when the lifeguards are on duty 10am-8pm. Never saw the other pools. The bar made some great frozen drinks late at night for us. And the outdoor movies were nice too.
The Food Services
Didn't use this much. Too far to fill our mugs. Just made coffee in the room. Very crowded and not laid out well. Long line just to buy some snacks in the morning. We prefer dining in restaurants and Shutters doesn't look good... nothing special, limited menu, not so great reviews, only open for dinner. With all the people at a moderate resort, it seems they could have a restaurant that's open for lunch and dinner and have a menu that is bigger and appeals to the masses. How many people eat Habanero pepper wings and jerk tuna? The quick service options didn't look so great either.
Check-in and Check Out
Check-in was fine. We got the building we wanted. Checkout was great too. I was worried about how we would get all our luggage there but the CM was prompt at 9:10am and carried all our luggage down to the van and into the Custom House. Very short line (2 people ahead of me) for the airline luggage check-in. We checked out on a Sun. morning... I'm sure it's busier on a Saturday morning.
