We have booked a Pirate Room with Water View for our trip coming up on Feb. 3rd (12 sleeps...yay)
I was concerned with the distance from the room to the main pool and eating areas too, but I am so glad to hear that it is only a 5-6 min walk. That is not that Far.....the resort we stayed at in Mexico was layed out the same way and our Kids could make the walk no problem.
We are going to disney ...there is alot of walking so what is 5 more min. to stay in a cool Pirate room. :thumbsup2

I don't think you have a cause for concern. I feel the walking distances at the CBR are exaggerated anyway. No matter which village/building we have stayed in, our walk was always fairly short and pleasant.

I am in! I will be taking my 3 children to the CBR on Nov 11-15 for 4 nights. They think it is for 3, but I wanted to have a full day so I am planning on arriving late.

We will do one day at the resort for the pool, MK, DHS, and MVMCP too. We are going to do one character meal and that will probably be Chef Mickey's. Who knows, maybe they will come out with a dining code.:thumbsup2

Just want to chare my excitement with you!

Thought you might enjoy some pictures from the resort. We stayed in a Pirate Room October 29 through Nov. 4.

This pink stroller was left there for the whole week. It never moved.
DH took this picture because it was how he remembered where our room was.:confused3

Late one night as we walked back from the pool we heard an owl. He was perched on top of a cupola.

We didn't mind the walk from our room up to Old Port Royale

We saw some interesting things along the way. . .
We saw this on Oct. 30, when we walked by on Nov. 1 he wasn't there

Thanks so much for the pictures, your kids must of had a blast. Makes me so excited for our trip.

Were you able to use a kids counter service meal off the DDP to get the pail and shovel? How was the bus service to the resorts?

Our kids loved the Pirate Room and the pool is excellent, I didn't take any pictures of the pool but it was beautiful! The pool was huge and we didn't spend enough time there. The pool was as nice as the pool at some of Disney's deluxe resorts.

We did use the Dining Plan to get the kid's meals. DH got the Adult chicken nugget meals and the kids liked his nuggets better, because they were the all white meat chicken and the nuggets with the kids meals are the formed nuggets. They enjoyed their french fries. ;)

The bus service was pretty good. We had a couple issues but I think that is to be expected. If you really don't want to wait on the buses then you could rent a car, but then you wait for the tram to take you out to your car in the parking lot or walk a long way out through the parking lots to find your car.

Okay, I'm sold! I spent most of today reading about resorts. I have access to a friend's friend with a Disney employee discount but she wants me to book our November trip next week, so decisions needed to be made! After reading 2 books and a few sites, this thread has convinced me - we're staying at CBR! Keep the photos coming!

Thanks for posting the recent pics!

(Living vicariously through others while I wait for Dec 2010 :lmao:)

Just booked yesterday for CBR with free dining Sept. 30-Oct.6th. Our first choice was CSR since we have stayed there before but it was all booked. The reservationist suggested CBR, after looking at this thread it looks great! But I keep reading on some other website reviews that there have been bed bugs lately and that the rooms are not clean. This will only be our second time staying in a Moderate and want it to be as enjoyable as the first. Has anyone else had problems with this resort? Thanks! :goodvibes

If CSR is booked for a week in the fall then there must be a big convention going on so it is probably better you didn't get a room. The one time I stayed at CSR there was a convention going on and it definitely affected the mood of the hotel stay.

As far as bedbugs I haven't heard anything negative and I have been checking this board for about 3 months now.

We are leaning towards staying at CBT for our Jan 2011 trip. It'll be our first stay at a moderate. Even though our trip is still a long time away. I have a few questions.

Love the look of the new kids play area. What age range do you think it's good for? Are there any age limits? How far is it to OPR from the various villages? Will we still have good time in Jauary, when the weather is less than topical? (Although I am hoping for at least a few swimmable days.)

Im going next week for 5 nights and I got a water view room. I also called and requested a room close enough to Old Port. Does anyone know which buildings are close to Old Port and have a water view?

Also when they say water view what does this entail???

In all honesty, I wouldn't pay the extra money for a water view at any Disney resort. Disney's idea of a water view can either be a swimming pool or a lake. I believe the cost of a water view room is the same as the cost of a preferred location. I would rather pay for the preferred location where you are guaranteed a room near Old Port Royale.

I think I read somewhere that there was an age limit for the kids' water play area but we saw kids of all ages playing there.

The promenade around the entire resort is 1.4 miles long. Old Port Royale is, roughly, in the middle of the promenade. So, even if you were in the furthest building from Old Port Royale, you're walk wouldn't be more than (again roughly) half of 1.4 miles. I actually timed my walk from Trinidad South (one of the furthest villages) and it took me 6 1/2 minutes to get to Old Port Royale. That was at a leisurely pace and taking pictures along the way.

When we stayed in the village of Jamaica, it took us maybe 5 minutes. We have stayed in Martinique 23 and the walk was about 4 minutes. The walk from Martinique 25 was about 3 minutes and the walk from Martinique 26 was less than 2 minutes.

When we stayed there last January my kids were 9 & 7 and enjoyed the new children's pirate pool very much. The kids playing in it that day probably ranged from about 4 to 10 or 11. I don't think it would appeal to kids older than 12 too much. I don't think there is a set age for it, but there might be a height restriction. Although there were plenty of parents in there playing with their kids!

The main pool is great for all ages. It's very large, has zero entry, and 2 slides -- one is shorter & open (DS7 loved it) and the other is longer & enclosed (DS9 and I spent a lot of time on it!). There are also 2 hot tubs.

We have had a standard room location both times we have stayed there. Once in Aruba and once in Jamaica -- both times we had an under 5 minute walk to OPR.

As for the January weather -- it is VERY unpredictable. We had days when the high was only in the 50's and days in the lower 80's.

We are staying at the CBR for the first time since 2001. Our last stay there was 9/11/01:eek:....we were in the process of moving to the Beach Club that day. We used to split our resort stays all the time.

We were booked at the WL...our fav....but this needs to be a more budget friendly trip and we saved over $500 by switching to the CBR....and best thing is....guaranteed KING bed:thumbsup2

How is Shutters for our arrival night dinner? ok? or terrible?
it's just so much easier to eat at the resort on arrival night after a long day of flying;)

Thanks for the replies. My kids will be 6 and 4 when we go and I was worried that my son would be too old for the play area. We love zero entry pools. That way we can all be in one place.
