On one of our trips to WDW in the early 90's we received a Carribbean Beach coin while staying at the resort. It is encased in plastic and is brass colored. On the front, it has a picture of the resort and is dated October 1, 1988 - October 1, 1993 (obviously issued for the 5 yr anniv.) on the back is a parrot circled by the names of all the different villages of the resort. Anyone have any idea if this is considered a collectible or there "billions" of them around?

Your coin is absolutely a collector's item. Obviously, it commemorates the first five years of the resort, so if I had to guess, I would say it was not created to be sold, but to be given away to cast members and guests during the "birthday".

I would also guess that it is not a huge edition, 5,000 would sound like a number that would make sense, but I would believe even fewer (maybe 2500) were made, since they were most likely intended as a commemorative "give-away".

I've never seen your coin, but I don't look for Disney coins. I can tell you that Disney coins are not very active on eBay right now, but it is the summer, and Disney on eBay does slow down. Use advanced search on eBay to look for someone selling a like coin. Perhaps the seller will know more about it.

Don't plan on paying off the mortgage with the coin, but it is a great collectible, and a cool momento of your '93 trip to the CBR!
