Today was Epcot day. We decided to risk the Disney bus, but it was fine getting there. We had to wait a while for the bus, though – we saw loads of others before ours came along. We went on Spaceship Earth first before moving around the park in general circles waiting for our next fast passes to come up – that’s the biggest drawback to this system. Also, this was another ride with only 10-minute standby so our FP was wasted. We went to Soarin’ and got a return time on the DAC, and then Emma and I went to Sunshine Seasons to get lunch. She went off and selected her own stuff which left me in a pickle for getting my own meal sorted with the scooter. Luckily there was a CM free to help me.

I enjoyed my salmon (I didn't have the salsa dressing), and the strawberry shortcake was amazing! Took all the spicy heat out of the salmon. Emma had turkey and Monterray Jack on ciabatta (without the chipotle dressing) and potato salad, and a carrot cupcake.

After lunch we went onto Living with the Land – which was another wasted FP with a 10-minute standby. By the time we came out of there, our Soarin’ time had come round, so we went and rode that. We requested the front row – and got it. Wow, you’re a long way up – but at least you don’t see anyone’s feet.

That done, we crossed the park back to TestTrack and rode that. I designed the cutest concept car, but didn’t get it scanned into the system at the gate quick enough so mine wasn’t included in the trials. Boooo.

From TestTrack we made our way to the World Showcase and went on the boat ride in Mexico and Maelstrom. Small queues for both.

We then made our way to China, where it all fell apart. The heavens absolutely opened as the thunderstorm arrived. The rain was torrential. We went into the temple and watched some amazing Chinese jugglers/contortionists for a while, but then we had to make a ‘run’ for it to catch our dinner reservation. I put a bag over the console to try and keep it dry, but the scooter cut out at France. Water must have got into the base unit or something. We got it over to a little arcade in the French pavilion where security came to see what could be done. Trouble is, our scooter people close at 6pm so if you have a problem after this time, you’re pretty much screwed.

Emma was pretty much doing her nut at this point. Security asked whether I wanted a wheelchair to get me over to Coral Reef. Trouble is, I said, it’s too much to ask Emma to push me all the way there, and as it was still chucking it down it would take a lot longer. We were both soaked – Emma’s Universal poncho was badly torn down the front, and mine got caught on the barrier going into the Chinese temple and ripped it badly.

A few minutes later she came back with two new Mickey ponchos as both of ours were torn, and also a brand new umbrella (which we never used in the end). After being dry for a little while, the scooter started, so we set off again. Sadly it conked out again just 20 feet from the pavilion. I gave up and started to push it, but it would lock up every 3 feet or so even with the brake released, so it was impossible. I should have taken up security’s offer to leave it under cover in the arcade! Emma went on ahead leaving me on my own. Two lovely men offered to push it to the UK pavilion for me: they explained that they were on a scavenger hunt and this apparently counted!

Once at the pavilion, the guy behind the till said to leave it with them and he would get it moved into a different place out of the rain (and out of the doorway where we’d left it). I could either come back for it later or have it collected the following day.

I continued on my way round to Coral Reef, meeting Emma under cover of a shop on the way, and we trudged round together.

We got stopped so many times on the way there – the park was closing at 9pm and the Land and Seas pavilions were closing off at 7pm for a private function. So, they wanted to be sure we had an ADR or we wouldn’t be allowed down that way.

Once we were at Coral Reef, we didn’t have to wait too long, even though we were nearly half an hour late for our booking. This is where the magic came in. Security had been trying to call on ahead to tell them we were in trouble, and I think they pushed the boat out for us. Having ascertained I could manage a few stairs, we were shown right down to the front. We had a great table, just one table for 2 back from the tanks. The food here was the best we had all holiday, and our server was a gem. She told me that I should tell the scooter people to come to Epcot to collect the scooter themselves – and that I should go elsewhere to get a replacement!

I had steak and fries, asking them not to give me the peppercorn sauce. Unfortunately they didn’t have barbecue sauce, but she brought a bottle of A1 Steak sauce (it’s not as nice, to be honest). But you can’t put ketchup on steak! I realised a few minutes in that the broccolini had garlic on it, and she brought me a new portion on a separate plate. I should have had the fries replaced as well (especially as I didn’t get that many)! Emma had trout and beans, which I thought was amazingly adventurous of her. She appeared to really like it.

Dessert was amazing: it was a chocolate pudding with raspberry gelato called ‘The Wave’. I think it was supposed to be slightly liquid in the middle (Emma’s was runnier than mine was), but it was divine. Mine had a birthday plaque in it.

We left the restaurant at about 9pm, and it had finally stopped raining. We left the park, but I went to speak to the wheelchair people to ask them to collect the scooter and bring it down so Sun Mobility could collect it in the morning. They agreed to do so. I hung onto the key!

When we got back to the resort we saw some fireworks going off as we returned to our room from the bus stop – as Illuminations were at 9pm (assuming they took place as they do them in rain but not in thunderstorms), I guessed it was something to do with the private function that was taking place.

By the time we got back it was quite late – it always seems to take more than twice as long to get to and from the parks by Disney transport. We were also quite wet.

I e-mailed Sun Mobility to tell them that I wanted them to deliver a new scooter to Jambo House and I would hand over the keys to the duff one which they should also collect from Epcot.
