:) I want to make Chili in the crockpot tomorrow. I want it to be hearty and flavorful. Whats your tricks of the trade? Please share.

I am a total wing it chilly maker.
But I have found if you get the dry beans and soak them over night it makes it thicker and I think tastier!
All I do is put the beans in, brown hamberger in a skillet with a diced onion and a green pepper. Add it to the pot. Then add a can of stew tomatoes then I add garlic, salt pepper and chilli powder to taste Then a put a splash or two or three of hot sauce! Let it cook all day!

Well, this is what passes for "chili" at our house. We definitely don't do SouthWestern 5-alarm chili...no alarm is more like it! :rotfl2:

Chili

1 lb ground meat
1 can tomato soup
1 can water
1 can refried beans
1 can black beans or Great Northern beans
½ bag corn (frozen, defrosted)
1 pkg Taco seasoning
1 Tbl chili powder
1 bag Lipton Rice & Sauce - Spanish flavor
2 c water

Just brown the meat, toss the rest in & let it simmer. I also like it with shredded chicken instead of the ‘burger. (I pre-cook the chicken in the crockpot on shopping day, then shred it & bag in meal-sized portions.)

Here's mine.

1 lb. Ground Beef (browned and drained)
1 small onion (saute until slightly brown)
1 green pepper (saute until with onion)
2 8 oz. cans tomato sauce
2 8 oz. cans stewed tomatos
2 8 oz. cans dark red kidney beans
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. chili powder (add more to taste)

Put it all together and let it simmer.

We like a milder chili. It's not spicy but very tasty.

1 lb ground chuck (so there's not so much fat in it)
2 cans diced tomatoes
2 cans pork n beans (everyone freaks when I tell them that's what I put in my chili but then they love it with those in it)
1 pack chili-o mix
1 medium onion chopped
tsp sugar

Brown ground chuck. Combine that and all other ingredients in crock pot. Cook on high for 1 hr. Cook on low for 6-8 hrs.

When it's ready take fritos corn chip and put in a bowl, spoon chili on top, top with grated cheese and sour cream. YUM!!! Enjoy!

I love this chili. It is almost like a sweet chili

1 lb ground beef
1 sweet onion
1 large can stewed tomato
1 can kidney beans
1 can pork and beans
2 TBS brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 TBS garlic and chili powder
1 small bag frozen corn

Brown ground beef and onion then mix all in crock pot and cook on low all day. We like to eat it with our secret recipie corn bread

Corn Bread
Mix 1 box of Jiffy corn muffins and 1 box Jiffy yellow cake with 2 eggs, 1/2 cup water and 1/3 cup of milk. Pour into a greased 13 by 9 in pan. Cook at 350 for 20 to 25 min or until done.

I usually don't like corn bread but I love this.

Rather than using ground beef, I prefer a rolled rump roast. cut into bite size pieces, then brown. I know it is more time consuming than the ground beef but it is worth it. One other note, add your beans for the last hour or two of cooking. If you cook the beans with the meat for too long, it will toughen your meat.

I use the Carroll Shelby chili spices in a brown paper bag by the seasoning packets. That, a pound of meat and subsitute beer for water - can't be beat!

heres our favorite

2 lbs of ground turkey (frozen in a roll type or you can use ground beef)
1 large onion chopped
1 medium green pepper chopped

Brown the above ingrediants, drain. Add:

2 cans Chili beans with sauce (they are red kidneys already in chili sauce)
2 cans tomatoe soup
2 can diced tomatoes
1 small jar medium salsa
2 packets of chili seasoning

I add a can or so of water, bring to a simmer and cook for several hours. If you were doing the crockpot I would get it all going and then put it in the crockpot. Chili doesn't seem to thicken easily in the crock so I would give it a good start stovetop then move it over.

We top ours with chopped tomatoe, shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream. Yummy!
