Card reader

Now that my EOS 400d, 70-300 IS, nifty fifty, and Sigma 17-70 has arrived , not only do I need to learn how to use it I need to start collecting my other essentials

First, linked to an earlier thread, seems that I need a card reader, any recomendations would be appreciated as I know nothing about this.

The easiest is to buy an external one, but if you are using a desktop PC with no front USB ports, you might be better off with an internal one, or just get a USB extension cord so you're not reaching behind the PC to get to it.

Other than that... buy the cheapest one that you can find. They're pretty much all USB2 and are a commodity item - there aren't really any features that are worth paying any extra for.

I've been using the SanDisk 12-in-1 card reader/writer - I got it at Best Buy for around $40. It accepts SD, miniSD, Compact Flash (I and II), 4 kinds of Memory Sticks, SmartMedia, xD..... It was working fine (with the emphasis on the "was") until about 2 weeks ago, and then for some reason it stopped reading SD cards; Compact Flash cards were fine, though, so I contacted SanDisk support and they gave me a UPS shipping label to send it back. This is my first experience returning something to SanDisk, so I'll have to let you know how it goes. I just returned it this past Friday; we'll see how long it takes to get the replacement.

I'd been using the SanDisk Compact Flash reader for a couple of years with no problems, but with my S3 I needed an SD reader, too, so I figured I'd got with the 12-in-1, rather than have multiple readers cluttering up my desk.

At Target today, I saw a 5-in-1 reader for $24.99; I can't remember the brand name, started with a D.
