I just don't get why celebrities are so stupid. This is a constant problem also... how can they not see what repercussions it had for XYZ.

They need some kind of guide of things NOT to say.

Is it racist? - Don't post it
Is it sexist? - Don't post it
Did you think about posting either of the things above? - Stay off social media.

It's ego, for sure. To suddenly be famous enough to get a platform where people will actually pay attention to you is too irresistable to some.

I don't have a dog in this fight as I don't watch the show, nor do I know who she is.

However, that said ...

It is such a tricky thing. Do I want people to be able to post things without fear of losing their job? If it wasn't horrific, yes. (I am not condoning her posts, btw) But we don't live in that world. We are in a cancel culture society so if she wasn't expecting this than she wasn't too bright. Esp if Disney had told her repeatedly to tone down her social media posts. Most employers don't give second chances. She was a commodity and this feels like it was a last resort move.

I don't fault Disney. They have to do what is right for them. They have to protect their brand. Sure, I think those other tweets upthread by people were bad too. But apparently they didn't cause the outrage like the ones Gina posted. The squeaky wheel gets the grease -- or in this case the biggest backlash gets the axe.

I don't like cancel culture. Never have, never will. However I know the world we are in. Those posts were controversial, she did it to herself.

If you look REALLY REALLY hard you can see her point, but it's just a bad idea to compare ANYTHING to the Holocaust. Personally, I don't think she gives a rat's butt about anti-semitism. She was just going for the most over the top and horrible way to make a weak point.

I'm not always one for cancel culture, either, but she had to see this coming.

Right. Her message, such as it is, is obscured by her anger and attempt to be shocking. It's her own fault. It seems like Disney gave her plenty of opportunity to let this blow over. She didn't even have to apologize, just keep quiet and let it be. They did what they had to do.
