... while I was at work all day today. Some ______ stole my Ipod, car stereo, and several old college textbooks (which i use for reference at work, well over 300 dollars worth). The broken window won't be covered by insurance either because i thought my car had such a little chance of being broken into... so i never bothered with glass insurance either. (living in NJ, auto insurance is so high you cut it ANY way possible) Worst of all because my car insurance sucks, is that they will not cover any of the loss of my personal belongings...

Just a bad day turned worse... needing to vent.

Ugh, I feel your pain. When I was 5 months pregnant, my car was broken into. The thief broke into my garage (broke the door), ripped out my alarm, stole my stereo and subwoofer. Insurance only covered a very small amount of my loss...just enough to buy a new stereo.

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear they did this to you, Kimberly. I hope things turn for the better for you. Good luck...

The worst part about it is that it was in a protected employee lot too, in an extremely large complex. It's almost like a co-worker had to know exactly what I kept in my car... I feel like I can't trust anyone there anymore...

Do you think your employer might have video tapes of the parking lot? Maybe they might have some type of surveillance cameras. That could help you identify the thief.

I guess I should be lucky where I live. I left for work one day and completely forgot to close the garage. Well, my nice $3000 bicycle was just sitting there in plain sight and when I got home, it was still there! Man, I should really count my blessing for living in a pretty safe city!

Would your homeowners or renters policy cover the loss of your stuff?

That really stinks. DH's car was stolen from in front of our house a couple of years ago by a band of crooks who was stealing cars to take what was valuable from them and them wreck them. Nice, huh? Luckily, everything was covered buy our deductible.

The thing is it comes as a total shock since it's considered one of the safest areas of the country (Bergen County, NJ and I work in Rockland County, NY). I guess you can't truely be "safe" anywhere though.

Our company does have tapes too of the parking garage, but only at the entrance/exit. Supposedly it's just too big to monitor from the inside, so they just monitor who comes in and who goes out.

Sucks doesn't it!?

DHs car was broken into while I was in the hospital having DD - they took his stereo, a few CDs (but left the Lee Greenwood one  ) and the front bra thingy that was in the trunk because he never used it. My van got broken into at our old aparment one night, they only thing they took was my Mickey coat - jerks! We had insurance on DHs car and it still cost him $500 to have the window fixed.

I hear you.

My car and my DH's were broken into at my house not that long ago. It got me very angry. I'm in NJ as well. Sorry to hear about your Ipod.

Something to laugh about though--my glove box had tampons in it, and obviously DH's did not. His glove box was rifled through and ransacked but mine was pristine! So, put some tampons in your glove box. Men will run for the hills!

:rotfl: Not such a bad idea.

At the Woodland Park Zoo in WA our car got joy rided. But since all it had was about 10$ and dirty clothes they decided to dump it about a mile away :goodvibes

Ours was broken into about a month or so ago. I had left my purse in the car, so they took my wallet (CCs and all), My Palm Pilot from work and my cell phone. He wasn't very smart, because he left a small book that had about $250 in cash in my floor board.
He did use my cell phone to call several people, including his mom. He is a 15 year old runaway. The detective is on his trail, but has not caught up with him yet. However, I know that I can kiss my stuff goodbye by now. I had to redo everything and keep a close watch on all of my credit, Social Security card and all. It is such a nightmare and you feel so violated. I feel your pain!

Yes, they didn't take stuff out of my glovebox, but they did steal my perfume!

I was so angry! But perfume is nothing compared to glass issues, ipod and other stuff like that.
