Car Seats Approved For Flying

My daughter is 2, and I wasn't going to put her in a car seat. I did buy her a ticket so she would have a seat, but I thought the carseat would be unnecessary and uncomfortable for such a long ride.

I think a sedative might work better. ;)

You might want to rethink that. The lap belt probably won't stop her from flying around in turbulence. In addition, most people think that their child is "calmer" for lack of a better word on an airplane when in the familiar car seat.

If you seriously think she's going to be such a handful that she becomes a safety hazard to herself in flight, speak to your pediatrician. I've heard of several advising mild antihistamines (Benadryl for example) which not only makes the child a bit drowsy, but also can help with ear ache problems due to pressure changes. Please don't administer this without speaking to the pediatrician first. I'm not advising it, just reiterating what I've heard others doing.

I was thinking of the sedative for me ;)

If it's a non-stop flight, you really aren't in the air that long. I think my 2 year old is more comfortable in his car seat, because it is supportive & sized to him. He didn't sleep much this trip, but last time he did, and I think he would have been uncomfortable without it.

Also, he can't undo the buckles on the car seat, but he could easily undo the lap belt & I'd have a hard time keeping him seated without it.

That said, hauling a car seat, stroller, 2 carryons, a 2 year old & my pregnant body through the airport was NOT fun!

If you're going to take a sedative, don't forget -- it's only fair to have enough to share with the people around you! :teeth:
