Car seat hysteria?

Yes, it has this, but when DS falls asleep and leans forward, the whole seatbelt comes forward, too.

It must be the loop kind. My DD's rather weaves in and out and that holds it fast. It also provides more side support holding her to side instead of falling forward.

you need to teach your DS to sleep leaning to the side instead of falling forward.

It is a good thing that the belt moves...then it will be in the proper place when he is sitting correctly.

How often does your DS sleep in the car? Is he still underweight for a harnessed seat? I'd consider moving him back to something harnessed (under 40lbs) if sleeping in the car is constant.

My ds is almost 5 and rarely falls asleep in the car. Maybe if we are out late or he is at our sitters but even then he is generally awake for the 10 min car ride.

You can recline the booster back a little which might help. But retraining him how to sleep in the car seems to be your best option. My DS slumped a little at first but after some reinforcing of how to sleep in the car and reclining the seat a notch it isn't a huge issue.

I just went and played with the belts on my Odyssey and mine do lock after being pulled out all the way. I'd never thought to lock them on purpose to keep my child's body from slumping forward.

You might try pulling the base of the carseat out a little and putting a rolled up towel between the base of the seat and the car to keep it in that position. You can't do it too much or it might not be too safe, but compared to taking your child out of the seatbelt all together it would be a whole lot better.

just want to add that if anyone needs to have their seats checked by a professional, you can find one near you on www.seatcheck.org

jodifla ~ I would check that out and see if they have any suggestions for your DS....I'm not a professional, so I don't know if this is safe or not, but perhaps you could put your DS in his booster, fasten the seatbelt then use a locking clip to hold the belt tightly so it won't come forward when he falls asleep.

My DD is in a Century Breverra booster seat and on the shoulder area, there are built in locking clips that I slide the seat belt through to hold it in place, that way it is snug against her chest and does not allow her to slump forward when sleeping.

Seperate locking clips aren't recommended for booster use and would just become a projectile in a crash. They also don't lock the shoulder belt so they wouldn't prevent the slumping that jodifla is referring to.

My tech certification ran out shortly after we moved to TX but I'm going to see if I can log onto the tech board and see if there are any other suggestions.
