We are renting a car when we get there and are still deciding if we are taking our car seat or renting one. Has anyone rented a car seat from the car rental companies? I just was looking and it looks to be approx $10/day. Just trying to decide if it is worth the money to not have to carry a car seat along on the plane too. Any thoughts?

I have not done so, but have personally seen 2 familys at a car rental counter on 2 separate trips be told that they were out of car seats. Sorry!

I would definately bring my own...if you are hesitant about dragging it on and off the plane, wrap it tightly in plastic/shrink wrap and check it as luggage...

Thank you so much for responding! Just hearing that answers my question. That would be horrible to get there and not have one!

Thanks Again!

If your child is 4 years old or older you do not need a car seat for the child. They can be strapped in regular belts. The car seat would be at your choice.

A couple of years ago I had the thoughts. I decided to bring my own car seats and was glad I did. The ones at the car rental place were sitting in the corner of the garage. Very dirty looking and would have been really mad if we had to use one.

I went to Babies R Us and found two car seat bags. When we arrive at the airport I check them in as luggage and the kids are fine sitting in the airplane seats. Done this on the last three trips.

(my kids are now 5 and 3)

The start of your vacation is not the time to be learning how to use the rental car seat correctly. You also don't know the history of that seat to know if it is safe.

Thanks for all of the input everyone. We are definitely going to take our own seat with us!
I really appreciate your help!
Have a magical evening!

Well we flew in June and had a great experience with Avis. They had plenty of seats--a whole little room full of them. All clean and wrapped in plastic. Not a fancy seat but fine for the week. It was a Graco brand I think.

We wouldn't hesitate to rent one again from them. Just another perspective. :thumbsup2

... and lots of children are injured/killed every year because of this. Children should be in a booster seat, in the back seat, until they are about 8 years old or over 80lbs. Regular seat belts are just not designed for small children.
