Car Ribbon Magnets

Does anyone have a problem with those magnetic ribbons on their cars? Does it damage the paint?
I just bought a bunch of them as part of a fund raiser and now my friend told me that she heard that they can damage the paint on your car!

I don't want to give it to anyone if that could happen! Does anyone have any experience with this? I think I may have just wasted my money

I've had 2 on my car for several months (out in the rain and heat over the summer) and have had no paint damage.

If it was a fund raiser, you did not waste your money.

I have never heard of anyone's paint being ruined by one of these. I didn't find anything on Snopes about it, but I can tell you I've had a Support our Troops magnet on my car for some time now and seen no damage at all to my paint. And I have a black car, so any damage to the paint would really show.

I think you'll be okay.

And, LOL EsmeraldaX- you're right! Even if I throw them away, it won't be a waste of money! I was thinking more of the lost opportunity to display them (raise awareness).

My DH, myself, my parents and sister all have these magnets and they do not damage paint at all.

If you are really concerned about the paint on your car, you could always tape them up inside the back window facing out.

My mom has a few in her home windows just taped to the window with packing tape.

Then when/if you remove them, you just need to scrub/scrape the window to get the tape residue off.
