Chopping 3 days off our stay, already had a car rental. If we return the car early will they give us trouble?

If we cancel and rebook the price would be higher now then what we are already paying.

Wing and just return it early or worry they might try to rebook us at the higher rate?

Alamo Car rental in MCO, is it located at the airport, meaning you just walk to your car or will there be a shuttle taking us to the car.

Anyone booked Alamo recently at the Orlando Airport?

Jimbo:)

I don't know which company you are using, but we called and asked if we could return our car to a different airport without actually changing our reservation and (Dollar) was able to tell us yes or no without actually doing it. Good luck.

The main reason the price is probably going up when you try to modify/rebook your reservation is that you are being priced into a different rate class. Let's say you were going to go for 7 days and now you were going for 4, you went from a week rental to a 4 day rental. The week rental carries a special rate, while the 4 day will be 4 days of the higher daily rate (often making a 4 day rental more then a week).

If you return early and you fail to meet the requirements of the rate you booked at, the rental agency can (and with almost 100% certaintity) rebook you in the lowest available rate based on the days you actually kept the vehicle. Winging it won't solve the price difference (neither will complaining when you return it). The problem is you agreed to certain terms (rate) when making the reservation, when you fail to meet those terms, you will be repriced into terms you qualify for.

Alamo is also right in the airport, you just walk over to the garage (follow the signs).

I'm going from a 10 day rental to a 7 day rental, weekly rental was $109 a week, extra 3 days was $16.77 a day, discount coupon is that west jet coupon from mouse savers(-$40.00 off)

Made the reservation total for 10 days come out to $179.62, booked in way back in February.

Didn't try to modify it, was afraid to. Just tryed to book another reservation using the same code and it was much higher.

I believe with Alamo, if you log into your reservation you can attempt to modify existing and you are presented with your two options (Original or Modified) and are required to select one (or if you don't select one it just defaults to current).

You are right, I went to modify and changed the drop off date to 3 days earlier. Then it said drop off date did not work for the coupon. So I took off the coupon, picked a car and the rate was $20.00 more then I was paying for 10 days.

You would think they would be happy having the car back 3 days early so they can rent again.

Sucks !

Maybe I'll call them and see what they say? Take names and Pictures. lol

It's a double edge sword, the longer you keep a car, the less administrative costs there are on the rental, sure you can turn around and rent it to someone else, but there has to be a customer willing to accept the car, otherwise it's a non-rev car and is making them zero dollars and they're having to do administrative items on it (cleaning/prepping for next customer) more frequently on shorter rentals.

For $20, I wouldn't even bother calling and honestly, I don't think they're going to be able to do anything because your new rate disqualifies the coupon (number of days or weekends, etc.).

I think I should modify it though to the 7 days so I don't get any BIG surprises when they try to charge me the current rent which by that time be ALOT higher.

Thanks for your help

DO NOT just turn it in 3 days earlier. They will re-calculate the rental charge using the daily rate if you do that, and it will be MUCH higher than the weekly rate would have been. (They will probably charge you in the neighborhood of $60/day for the 7 days.)

Just get yourself a totally new reservation with a code that fits the trip length; you might have to go with a different company. Then cancel the old reservation; as long as you do it at least 24 hours out there is normally no penalty to do that.

I sent an email to Alamo regarding this issue and was told you would be subject to it being the current rate for the # of days you had the car. I would not take the chance

I would rebook.. Not worth getting a big surprise when you get the bill

Check the rates today.... looks like they came down from yesterday.
