I have found ok air fare but I cannot get a ok rate on a SUV or full size van for our family of 8. I have been playing with codes all day. Any help? I am almost ready to drive 20 hrs. Is it me or are the rates much higher this year? Thanks for any help or advice....

Do two separate rentals. Rates seem lowest at the one-week mark (actually, five to seven 24-hour periods, don't ask).

12/16 to 1/1 is actually sixteen days (could be seventeen, depending on your times).

Try two consecutive eight-day rentals, see what you get for prices. Remember that unlike connected reservations in a hotel room (where you may have to change rooms, but you may not), connected car rental reservation REQUIRE you to return the vehicle and rent another one.

Too, are you 100% positive dead-set on needing a vehicle all sixteen days?
