We may have to rent an SUV to drive from NH to Orlando. My DH is questioning the reliability of mine at the moment. The motor is starting to "rap" and afraid of the motor blowing mid trip on such a long drive.

I'm sure there are rental codes and such out there, but this is all new to me. I know I'd have to find one with unltd mileage.

Any advice on where to start looking for a decent rate?

Thanks for you're help :)

Your best bet is to go go www.mousesavers.com and check out their codes. They have contract ID's, rate codes and coupons. Then just go to each website and check them out. With a little research you should get a great rate!

Most of the codes and discounts that Mary mentions can be applied just about anywhere. I'm renting a minivan this week in Delaware using the National codes that she lists. The van has unlimited mileage, which is a big plus, because we need to drive to South Carolina this weekend. We're paying $205 for a one-week rental. I would definitely start with National if they have a location convenient to you and then proceed from there to any of the other national chains.

We live in Boston and have three kids and were going to drive, made sense, but after looking into renting a car, hotel rooms on the way, it was cheaper to fly and get a compact or some type of small car down there. Try SW airlines, JB out of Logan. I just booked on MIL on a flight for $59 each way. Just another opinion and with my husband and I and three kids in the car flying will just be so much more pieceful and we might actually enjoy the vacation together.

We normally drive to Myrtle Beach, not bad going down, we do drive straight through, but coming home the kids have NOTHING to look foward to and the drive home is just painful !!!!

thanks for you're help everyone.

DebMcDonald - flying is not an option I can choose with DH, he just will not do it, that's pre-9/11 too. We've driven down 2x now, this will be our 3rd, we don't mind it at all...but I know what you mean about coming home though  But it's not so bad. Great rate for you're MIL!
