Because of the high cost of flights in dec we are contemplating driving to Florida for our trip the last 2 weeks of Dec. One advantage is we will have a car the entire time we are there. We plan to go to MK on Xmas day around 8am. I am wondering if we would be better off taking the bus from AKL or driving to MK? I figure there could be long waits for the bus but at the same time traffic could be insane and then we would have the waits for the monorail.

We always take the bus for MK. The other parks depend on our mood. When we stayed at AKL, the Disney transportation was great! If the crowds are high, then they'll be running more busses. Just plan on taking an early bus over.

We were at WDW christmas of 2012. We went to EPCOT Christmas day and used buses, no trouble at all all week except 12/30 and that was partially my fault.

However, I am posting mainly to say, in 2012 MK opened at 7 am to onsite guests, so if you are on site, you will be an hour behind the first people at 8. I know the calendar right now says 8, but for several years its actually opened at 7 the week of Christmas. :) 12/26 we went to MK and we were at the bus stop at 550 am, which was plenty of time. The bus got there about 6:10 and we were standing in front of the gates by about 630.

We were there 2 years ago and used the buses. The traffic at the gates were backed up for miles, but the buses didn't have a problem.

Much easier to come and go.

Unless I was going to be at the parking at about 5:30-6a on Christmas day. I would use Disney Transportation.

The main reason is that one of the phases (Phase 2, I think) of phased closure is that they allow people arriving via Disney Transportation into the park.

Phase 1 is they close the toll booths.

Ok that's basically what I was thinking so thanks for all the replies! We are planning to go at 8 just cause we don't want to leave super early. We aren't concerned about rides or anything just getting in :) good to know the buses at akl on Xmas day are good!!
