Car jackings in Florida???

So my DH comes home from work and asks me to post this question on the Dis, he is very secretive and doesn't really give me any details. Are carjackings a problem, or are some of the negative guys at his work busy again with opinionated wrong info?

It happens but I don't think that much.

I'm going down alone with my 7yo daughter. I'm renting a car and driving from the airport to WDW. I'm planning on having my cell phone in hand or close by in case anyone tries to bump me. If they do, I'm calling the police, driving to the nearest busiest store I can find, and laying on the horn till someone comes to see whats up.

It sounds like I'm scared but I'm not, I just have a plan in case I need one...

There was one on the news in the past week or so because someone LEFT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION when they went in to pay for gas. Their poor little puppy was in the car! But they got the puppy back. I don't know about the car.

There was also some negative press a bunch of months past about carjackings and such from the downtown disney area. I'm pretty sure they caught the people that were doing it.

I mean, think about it, there's a TON of cars and people, there's bound to be crime. Disney tries to minimize it, but it can and does happen.

Carjackings can occur anywhere and at any time. My then 8 year dd and I were car jacked in our own neighborhood (one of the nicer ones in Houston with its own security patrol) coming back from a Valentine dance. This happen just before I was to make the turn into my driveway and it was scary. No one was hurt and the car was recovered.
