Looking to book a flight with BA next December (18 Dec to 5th Jan 09). Only want the car that comes free of charge with the flight cost.

How do I go about arranging car insurance? The BA cover seems quite pricey.
If, they do not have enough small cars and we were to be upgraded to a better car, how do I adjust the insurance cover to reflect that?

On previous trips we have taken either Virgin or BA car hire which has included insurance but this does seem expensive.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can buy an annual policy for around £99 that will cover you. Still not seen enough reports on claims with these policies for me to try it. I like to be able to return the car in any condition and leave any problems with them not have to fill in paper work at the airport then make claims when I get home.
We always take the free car with Virgin then don't collect it, book thru Airline Network. Next August 24 night hire with Virgin is over £800 with co called free car, airnet is under £500. Works out about £20/night incl Platinum cover for full size car.

I booked flights with BA but booked my car with USrentacar in September for next July, full size 3 weeks + gold insurance, as i am the only driver for £365

I always take the free car and insurance from insurance4carhire.com

Dollar and Alamo will accept this no probs, they do not hold a large deposit or authorisation against your card like they claim normally just the taxes and fuel cost - couple of hundred $

Never made a claim on the policy though.

cost is £99 plus ins prem tax, go through quidco and you get 20% cashback.

I've used insurance4carhire a couple of times, in the US, and not made a claim :thumbsup2

Bought the European policy last year though and had to claim when someone damaged our parked car in Italy!
Insurance4carhire made a debit of £900 to my cc to cover repairs but were pretty good at crediting my card once all the paperwork came through :)

Everything was sorted within 2 months but I do have to admit that I've taken Virgin's ins this coming year as it'll be DD (9) and myself travelling alone and I don't fancy a hefty debit if I need to claim anything :confused3
