Car Ins / Taxes

Thanks Craig,
In about 20 minutes you've just given me the missing links to solve my dilemma :sunny:
I've just been online and been accepted for a NatWest credit card so I'm printing out the policy documents, can book our fly drives and contact NatWest about the car at a later date.
Yippee :sunny:
Now to get on with my uni assignments ;)
Thanks again.

We have a Natwest card that we've used for insurance the past couple of years and it's been really good value. Also used an Amex policy in the past but it isn't such good value if you have already travel insurance from elsewhere.

Worth bearing in mind that with the Natwest policy you need to pay off the balance of the holiday using the card and will usually end up paying a surcharge - it's £18 for our upcoming trip. Therefore if you've got two trips planned in a year the 'insurance4carhire' option will probably work out a little cheaper at £99 compared to approx £111 (£75+£18+£18).

Peebee,

I wasn't aware of any charges, or having to pay for the holiday itself using my NW card. This was never mentioned.

I know to qualify for their Free Travel Insurance you have to buy the holiday with the NW card, but that is seperate to the car insurance.

I will be using my NW card anyway to pay for my hols, but I don't recall any mention of £18 surcharges.

Anyone else??

Cheers

Craig

I'll bear that in mind Paul.
Whichever way I look at it now though I've gone from being puzzled to having a choice, both options of which I know have been tried and tested :sunny:
Craig, I think I've heard of others who've used NatWest and just had to pay the car bit on the card with no charges etc.

Does anyone know if you can book a flydrive with virgin or B.A and not use the car. I ask this as I have received a fully inclusive quote for a car for the duration of our holiday which is less than the car insurance quoted to us by B.A.

Also, can anyone give me an idea of how much the 'other taxes' not insurance, would cost for a 21 day period.

Hi Craig - sorry if i wasn't clear before.

The £18 figure I mentioned was the charge Virgin levied for paying by credit card - 1.5% of the total - we've already paid the deposit via debit card. Most of the travel companies these days seem to pass on a charge to recover some of what they are billed by the credit card companies.

If you allow roughly £10 per day you won't be far out.

I am sure on our last trip using Natwest insurance, we only paid about $100 extra in other charges. I thought it was about $5 a day, I may be wrong!

Someone else told me $100 - maybe that was you DisneyBB :p -on anaother thread.
