Pre-paying for petrol from car hire company or not?. Does the car come with a full tank of petrol or can I take the car back with a full tank. In the past I have pay for the petrol up front with dollar.

Yes, the tank comes full and you opt whether to take it back full (no charge from Dollar) or empty (you pay Dollar for the fuel). It's much cheaper to buy your own petrol, but you need the confidence that you'll be able to find the gas station and fill up when you need to!

I think buying the tank full from Dollar cost us somewhere around three times as much as a full tank bought subsequently in our trip.

I usualy pay for a full tank to avoid having to mess around on the way back.
If you do go for topping up at the end, watch out for the nearest to the airport gas stations really ramping the price up....you wont see any "locals" going to those stations.

i pay for the tank and bring it back about half full....so i waste about half a tank....to me it's just a marginal cost of the trip and worth it to not have to worry about filling up before going back to the airport..

i used to always do it the other way around, but i don't bother anymore..

It is much cheaper to just fill it up yourself. Just don't forget or you will be charged when you return the car.

Many thanks for your information. Speak to usrentacar on thurday about bring the car back full of petrol.They said budget will make you pay for the price of the petrol when you pick the car up. So the offer usrentacar have at the moment , £310 for a minivan for 2 week mean you will have to pay for the petrol when you pick up the car or take the £334 offer which included a tank of petrol. £334 is still a very good price.

I always bring back full now - not because of the cost but because the last time we "brought back empty" we had major stress on the way to the airport as I had taken the phrase a bit to literally

we did that once as well! looking back now it's funny, but at the time it was panic stations and lots of bleeps!!
