Have received an email from yescarhire with regard to increases in 2006.

Apparently the prices are going to go up significantly. It is worth paying now or the deposit (£50) if more than 8 weeks ahead as you will get 2005 prices. In some cases they are saying the prices will double (I cant believe that somehow!).

I rang www.usrentacar.co.uk and they said they expect prices could be 30% higher but couldnt say for sure!

Hi,

Also heard this was true, I was told the cost of petrol and the increasing prices of actually making the vehicles will have an effect next year.

I was told that the people who make and supply the vehicles in the usa (GM Motors etc) are also not making as many vehicles for rental as there is no money in it. So to make money they are charging the likes of Alamo, Dollar etc more. Hence the price increase.

Will have to wait and see...... it's doesn't really effect me as I have booked my car for next year already with us rentacar who have assured me that once booked the price will never increase!

Yes, the price of plastic raw materials has virtually doubled in price,Ford have sold Hertz and are in financila trouble, whilst GM may have to go into Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The car hire companies which the manufacturers owned were used as dumping grounds for overproduced stock, but that now seems to have changed.

Last week, Hess on WDW wasselling petrol at $2.03 a gallon, at the weekend, it had gone up to £2.13, but this was still cheaper than around where the price was as high as $2.30 a gallon!

China driving up the price of raw materials i would say. My Dad is a plumber and the demand for Lead and Copper has driven up scrap prices to amazing levels recently.

The upside is that abandoned cars has reduced as they are now worth something!
China has options on the majority of aluminium as well, causing price hikes.
