Car for college program question

I am taking my car but my reasoning is pretty much if I am still paying for it I sure better be able to drive it. Tehe. Course it is a little car and limits the stuff I get to take down...
Pretty much I will not let anyone drive my car unless I have been in a car with them driving, and are good friends with them.

I am 20, almost 21, years of age and have yet to own a car. I know, I know, how the heck does he get around? Well, depending on people stinks. But I have made it this far. I still don't own a car and I am doing a CP this spring (god willing.) So it looks like the buses for me....

Don't worry, it is doable. I have not had a car with me for any of my CPs.

Don't worry, I am sure there will be people down there without cars. ;) I have a car, but it will be staying at home for my CP. It's a couple years old and while it's in pretty good shape, I am afraid driving that far will probably not make it that happy...not to mention saving money on gas! :teeth:

I'm already working out the trip with my dad in case I get accepted. I live in Pullman WA, my mom lives near Seattle, so I'm just going to bring everything to my mom's that I would take with me to FL by Christmas, then give myself a few days to get to my dad's in San Jose (extra time for the mountain pass in southern Oregon/northern California) then just stay there for the remainder of time until we have to head out to Disney and give ourselves 5 or 6 days (in case of car trouble or weather or someone gets sick) and try to do it in 3. Probably going to stop for the night in Tucson and Houston after leaving San Jose, then get into the Orlando area at night. Looking at 12-14 hour days of driving, but in shifts it'll be a breeze. The drive down to San Jose should be just fine solo, I drove with my dad as a passenger a couple summers ago then back with my sister and was fine both ways. (and now my exhaust is nicer, got rid of that dumb coffee can muffler and got a quality full system).
Then we'll spend any leftover time doing fun stuff like going out to Cape Canaveral or heck, go to DISNEY WORLD.

For the record it's 3,676 miles from my mom's to Lake Buena Vista, not counting leaving freeways for food/gas/rest stops or finding a motel at night. That's more than an oil change! (But I'm going to time it right so that I get one at my dad's then another when I get to FL). My car already has 187k+ miles on it, but it's a Saturn so it's good for another 50k-100k miles before it needs the engine rebuilt/replaced, it's a 97 and I get ~30mpg highway. I laugh at every commercial that advertises "new more fuel efficient" cars with 30, even 35 mpg... I fit most of the stuff from my dorm room in it and could still see out the whole back window. I'm going to need to ship some stuff anyways and I'm gonna use space bags for any bedding so I have more room. I'm hoping to fit my bike in somehow too though, we'll see how that goes.

I won't be bringing my car. I hope I don't regret it. I don't think I will though because I don't mind walking or using public transportation.
