Car color - did you get what you wanted or settle on something else?

Did you get the car color you wanted or settle on something else?

  • Yes, I got the color I wanted off the lot or special ordered it that way.

  • No, I settled on a color because it was all the dealer had.

  • Other - because there has to be an other (maybe you had it painted later?)

We have always been able to get cars in the color we want - new or used. You just have to be patient or find a dealer who will work with you.

Our newest vehicle (2005) was not available locally with the color or options we wanted. This was during the GM Employee Pricing and the local dealerships said that you had to buy what was on the lot or nothing. I went online and found a larger Chevy dealer and called them. I told him exactly what we wanted and he found it for us. So, we drove two hours away but ended up with the vehicle we wanted. The other dealerships ended up with no sale.

This is what happened to us. I got a Pont. Vibe in "05" they didn't have the color I wanted so went to another dearler and they found one. But I will say my next car will not be silver, my last car was and now this one is. I did ask for silver when I got it and I love the car. But my DH's car is silver my DD's car is silver, so tired of that color no more silver for me.

I've always settled for what the dealership has - my most recent car purchase was the last of a model year leftover. My current car is black, and I really don't like it, but it was a good deal. I've never owned a car that was a color I really liked.

I'm thinking about another car in a year or so, and unfortunately the model I want only comes in 5 colors, none of which are my favorites, or what I would ideally pick! However, this model has all the features I want at the price I can spend, so I'm not going to pick a different car solely for the color choices (although Mazda has about 3 colors I love in a similar car, if only they had all wheel drive!). However, I will definitely buy this car in one of my top 2 choices - I'm planning to drive this car until it's dead, so I want to like it and not feel like I settled!
