Caption Needed for Engagement Picture Gone Wrong

At the risk of sounding ignorant, besides possibly the lighting, what is wrong with the picture?

He looks like he's preparing to dump her lifeless body over the rail. Her legs are fine. The photo would have worked if her left hand was holding him at the neck and she was looking up at him.

There's all that for sure, but the position they are in makes it look like they are going at it. That isn't the impression I would want my engagement photo to give.
The second one is better.
My first instinct was it was the "final dip" in a dance.

I do agree with others, the poses may be a little awkward, but I don't classify either as "gone wrong".

What? I'm sorry but no. He isn't between her legs...

That's not how it works.

Wow really, I didn't know that

It's an impression I get from that picture. Her legs are exposed almost to her crotch, her head is tilted back. IMO opinion it's not a flattering position, it looks like they are getting busy. Maybe not literally but it's the impression I get from that photo.
It's OK that you don't, you do realize people see "art" in different ways right. You see a dance, I see a sexual position. ( Maybe some of us are more adventurous you know)
As for me I wouldn't want to put out any formal engagement photo that had any possibility that looked like I was in mid climax. But hey, if that's the kind of stuff you are into- good for you and your partner.

Yes, it definitely looks like it's supposed to be something along the lines of being "dipped" while dancing. I think that's a very common pose for couples photos (because it tends to have romantic/getting swept off your feet vibe), so I don't see anything out of the ordinary about it.

The photographer is just not very good. The photographer should have positioned them a little better and taken the photo from another angle.

It seems like they were trying to have a little fun. If both of them were laughing I think it would’ve had a different effect.

But I also agree, the composition wasn’t that good, nor were the subjects in focus, etc. Photgraphically rather amateur.

It does look to me that they were trying to highlight “the ring” while fooling around. I fixed it a little to get some of the excess crap out of the shot - maybe a little better?

I def. agree they are trying for the dance-esque dip. She is wearing a high slit dress and if that personally isn't to your taste okay but no where in a million years would I think they are trying to go at it :confused3

Not everyone is trying to even go for professional staged, posed photos. Some just want honesty, in the moment, real "hey this is us" type photos mixed in with some more posed styles. We don't need to assume something went wrong either or they are are unhappy with how the photos came out (unless the OP is personally acquainted and can attest to them being unhappy or it's out there somewhere them quoting that).

My caption would be nothing more than "a beautiful couple in love"

I agree with this. My first thought looking at the initial photo was that she had slipped or tripped and he caught her to keep her from falling to the ground. It took a few seconds for me to realize it might be a dance pose.

I have seen a lot of awkward looking dip photos. It’s something that usually translates better in video. Even professional dancers can be snapped at an awkward moment during the dance. I know I am clumsy when it comes to posing for photos, and the creative vision doesn’t always come out the way I want it to. Since the photographer is the only one who sees the viewpoint of the lens, it’s up to them to make sure the photo conveys what the customer wants, and I assume in this day and age, the photographer would have let them view the image in case they wanted a retake. We don’t know how the couple in the photo feels about it, but I wouldn’t say it went wrong since I don’t know if the final product is exactly what they were going for. It is possible that they kept the photo as something fun between the two of them, and that the pose as is, or the remembrance of the moment it was taken, were more important to them as a couple than having a more formal look.
