Do the men have to wear a sport coat for the Captains Gala Dinner?

They're supposed to wear a suit & tie. A sport coat would be a little too casual, but I'm sure you'll see men wearing them.

My husband always wears a tie to this event.

My husband wears his black suit and tie for formal night, and recycles the suit with a silk shirt (tee shirt type) for semi-formal. He does not look out of place without a tie, but does have his jacket on.

Several years ago at the Captains Gala, at our table was a man in a tux, another in a sport coat and a couple of us in dress shirts and ties. Then there was the officer that joined us for that dinner. He was wearing his dress uniform. I'll tell you that we had a wonder (actually it was a MAGICal) time. I wish the DCL still had officers join tables for dinner!!

As you can see, we had a wide range of attire for the gentlemen at our table.
