I remember reading that Captain Hans is no longer with DCL. Does anyone know what happened?

When we cruised last October, he spoke of the Magic like it was "his baby." He said he had been the captain of the Magic since the beginning.

Just curious as to what happened to him and where he is now.

The last I heard was that it was just a rumor. Everything I have found out seems to indicate he is still with DCL

He was soooo wonderful with my then 6 year old son! They "chatted" about the boat and I have a great picture of them that I wanted the good Captain to autograph!
I won't be going for another 10 weeks but I'll let you know if he is still there!

When we sailed in January Captain Hans was still there. I have enjoyed listening about the way he speaks of the DCL. It would definitely be a shame if he left.

I truly hope it is just a rumor. We're renewing our wedding vows on the Magic at the end of September. I was hoping he would be the captain of the Magic at that time.

Actually, it is confirmed that Captain Hans is no longer with DCL. I have no other details.

I sent an email to DCL prior to Michelle reporting that his departure has been confirmed. I guess I know now what their response will be.

It's a fine tribute to the Captain that we all have fond Disney memories of him.

Our February '02 cruise was delayed departing from the Port for an hour due to HORRIBLE weather conditions and he made it up in good time. Later he told us that had he attempted to leave the Port on schedule we might have been turned sideways due to the winds. Having flown in to Orlando earlier that day, and having the nightmare flight - I am very glad he made the decision to wait the worst of the storm out!

We can all appreciate a good ship's captain!
Especially when some of us LIVE on bonine!!!

Good luck Captain, wherever you are!

I wonder; first we have a fire on the Magic and now Captain Hans is gone. Sure wish Disney would be more up front with what caused the fire.

I think those of us on the fire cruise also wonder if the fire had anything to do with Captain Hans departure from DCL. When we were on the ship he spoke lovingly about dcl and the Magic. I find it hard to believe he left willingly and that makes me sad.

I would hope the fire incident would not tarnish his image. Especially since it seems like he was well regarded in the cruise industry and by people like us. If anything it seems like the crew knew what to do and handled it like pros because of his leadership. I hope that this incident is totally unrelated to his departure and that maybe he went back to his first cruise line (can't remember which one) or an even better position some where else.

Regarding the ship's fire - has all the damage been repaired?

We too have many fond memories of Captain Hans and will miss him. We have met all the DCL captains, and they are a wonderful, professional, and personable bunch.
I would say that the fire definitely did not have anything to do with his departure.

If the fire did not have anything to do with it, it is very unfortunate that his departure was so untimely. To leave DCL, whether voluntarily or involuntarily, right after that incident will lead many people to the conclusion that he was "fired" for it. Although I was never on one of his cruises, I did meet him and can be counted among his "fans." I wish him well.

Although I do not remember the date of the fire, there certainly has been a lag of several months before we heard of Captain Hans departure. I cannot see that they are related. If there were, he would have been gone way before this. Until someone else mentioned it, I had not even considered it connected.

He is a super captain and I bet he was made an offer he could not refuse.

When I first heard about it was close enough (a few months) that they were probably still in the process of investigation. However, I certainly DON'T think he had ANYTHING to do with the fire. The underlying problem is that a captain is always responsible for his ship. But IMHO, even the GREATEST captain can not control every member of his crew at every minute, so it would be extremely unfair to dismiss him. Does anyone know him well enough to find out where he went . . which line?

Has anyone heard if the damage has been fixed yet?

I am very sad to know that captain Hans left DCL.

He was our captain on our cruiser March 2th (the cruise before the one of the fire). He was very nice. We had rough seas that week and he tried to avoid the bad seas.

I hope that it is not because of the fire. I wish him well on the new job he will have.
