Captain EO?

I never got to see it when it was there originally so I wanted to see it for that reason. I'm glad I got the chance to see it, but I have to admit I thought it was really cheesy. I know that it was revolutionary when it came out, but boy technology has come a long way baby!:lmao: The biggest surprise for me was that I thought my DD, 17 would think it sucked because the technology was so old. She LOVED it! She said it was nice to be able to see MJ when he was young.

I really don't understand why people have negative reactions to Captain EO. Its such a fun experience, plus the pre-film video is so cool. I hope they never take it away again! Realistically, I know they will, but hopefully they don't bring back Honey I Shrunk the Audience. THAT was something to cringe about...

I agree. I think EO is fun (cheesy, but still entertaining). I also hope they don't bring HISTA back. The last time I saw it was years ago when I was a kid and my mom took me out of the theater mid-show because I hated it so much that I started crying and I never had the desire to try it out again when I got older.

I was tired of HISTA, but EO was just awful..I mean, painful awful. We saw it and when it was finally over (thank goodness), I looked around and there was only one smile in the theatre. I told DH "I want the last 15 minutes of my life back" and he said he used the seat and the AC to take a brief nap.

It's back. Saw it on Thanksgiving Day. It was horrible. :scared1: So 80's. I was a teenager in the 80's and I probably loved it. But now, it is the worst thing I have ever seen. :rotfl2: If the line is really short and you have nothing else to do....... perhaps. Don't skip something good to see this.

Being a child of the 80's I loved it! Yes it's cheesy, but that makes it fun! We saw it twice when we were there in August, and I plan on seeing it again in June. This time my friend's 12 year old daughter will be with us (we sorta left her with grandma last time!)...I'm curious as to what her reaction will be...probably negative :confused3

Maybe I'll play Captain EO the Video Game before my WDW trip this summer to set the mood before seeing it at EPCOT. :thumbsup2

From what I remember I liked the attraction when I was teenager. Maybe it has something to do with that it was the best 3D experience of its time.

It was nostalgic for me to see it again. I remember when I saw it for the first time in 1986. I did enjoy it then. I still think it was more of a nostalgic reason that I enjoyed it when we saw it on our last two trips, but I was happy they brought it back for a limited run. I am looking forward to something new though.

I feel the same way. I remember seeing it as a teenager and I love old school 80s things, so it was nice to see it again. I took my 16 yr old ds to see it this past Feb. and he thought it was cool. He didn't think it was terrible at all (unless he was humoring me?) and thought the dancing was awesome. I don't see how people hate it so much but to each their own. I didn't love HISTA but I didn't hate it. I would like something new, there is so much they can do.

We saw it a few weeks ago and it wasn't bad. If anything, it was nice to sit down in the AC for a while on a hot day! It was a little long, so my daughter started to lose interest before the action picked up again at the end.

We just saw it for the first time last week! I liked it! Dh however would have rather had bamboo chutes shoved under his fingenails. oh well. :lmao:

This for sure! :hippie:

I never liked HISTA and was glad to see EO in October, although the 3D effects are really bad, the movie is really showing its age... I don't think WDW can get away with showing this for too much longer.
HISTA had to go, but I wonder what Disney would have come up with if Michael Jackson hadn't died?

I would have rather watched HISTA for the 100th time than have watched EO for the first time. I did not like it.

I was not a fan of HISTA and was glad to see they replaced it with Captain EO. I know eventually Captain EO will be retired but I just hope they retire HISTA and come up with something new.

I realize it is "vintage", but you can hardly pay me enough to sit through it a second time. Because of the quality, I don't think they can keep it much longer.

I saw this last year at DLP (three times!) and I am sooooooooooooooo excited to see it again at WDW. Ok it's a bit old, but it's hugely entertaining and I love it to pieces. I absolutely hated HISTA so that's no loss as far as I am concerned and EO is a HUGE plus! I don't know how anyone can fail to be grinning from ear to ear after seeing this :). Maybe it's the nostalgia value - I can't remember how many times I made my parents ride during our visit in the 80s but it was LOT!

It is easy for me not to grin from ear to ear about anything to do with Michael Jackson. I thought it really inappropriate for Disney to bring it back. Yeah yeah yeah--I know---nothing was ever proved--yadda yadda yadda----and OJ wasn't guilty either. Maybe they should have an OJ Simpson Football attraction! Woohoo!

I found nothing inappropriate about them bringing Captain EO back????? Except the actual print of the movie seems to be in very bad quality. If we took everyone who ever worked on a WDW film, attraction etc...and brought in their personal life as a gage as to if their attraction should be at WDW etc..there would probably be nothing there but swamp.

I was reading an interesting book the other night, "The Vault of Walt", and there's an entire chapter dedicated to the story behind Captain EO.

What I didn't realize was, that at the time, Captain EO was the most expensive film ever made!

The film is only 17 minutes long, and yet it cost over $23 million to make... that's over $1,000,000 per MINUTE!!!:scared1:

And frankly...as much as I enjoyed watching MJ's dancing...I saw Captain EO in November while we were there, and I was pretty disappointed.

"Cheesy" doesn't begin to describe it, IMO. :confused3

I saw this once back in 1990 or so, when I was a teenager. I don't remember anything about it, but I love MJ and hope its still there in August so I can take a second look.

I remember seeing it as a kid... don't remember the movie too much, but I know I bought the crazy orange looking thing with the really long "naked" tail ... what WAS that? I'm 99% sure it still resides in my parent's attic :confused3

If it's still there in November, I'm sure we'll go see it ... DS1 takes dance and they learned parts of the Thriller video, so he likes old MJ stuff ...
