Captain EO Faces The Final Curtain

I know in alone in this, but I am actually sad about this. I enjoyed getting to see this fantastic 80s attraction every trip. I wish I could buy a dvd of it!

I have one. It's usually available on eBay. It was sold overseas.

Well, finally! party:I hope they really mean it this time. It does seem like curious timing, but they'll probably use the theatre to tout their coming movies until they can come up with an actual attraction.

3D Star Wars preview!!!

I'm going to guess that they'll immediately start using the theater to preview The Force Awakens.

ETA: Oops, sharadoc beat me to it.

Those saying it will be used for previews could be right..although The Good Dinosaur is previewing at DHS ( not happy about One Man's Dream being used for it)...Force Awakens will be previewing at DHS soon in a different place... I'm just going to Dream big for the Imagination Pavilion, as I wander off humming 'One Little Spark.'

I can't believe nobody has said this yet. Captain EO is/was terrible. I grew up in the 80's and liked MJ, but they could show a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse from the 50's and it would have more relevance then this hunk of junk.
That's your opinion - not fact. Some people really like it. Just because some people have negative opinions of it doesn't justify closing an attraction...if there's nothing else to put in its place.

Actually, what I really think they should do is make an all new Captain EO film with a new star as EO. Bruno Mars comes immediately to mind since he is so often compared to MJ. With updated, state of the art technology and a catchy new song, they could honor the legacy of EO and create a new attraction for years to come.

Captain EO should have a background cameo in The Force Awakens!

Don't see anywhere they said it was fact. It is ok to voice opinions on this forum.

But so I'm not misunderstood, this is my opinion. I saw it when it opened and it was terrible then and terrible now IMO. I wouldn't be unhappy if they burned all copies.

Hmmm. Why do you hate it so much? Seems like other forces guiding your angst.

What the heck???

I don't even have that much "love" for the attraction, but rather I am supremely annoyed that they would close ANOTHER attraction without having something ready-to-go somewhere in the park (if not the same spot) to immediately replace it! We are heading into an insanely crowded time of year, and Epcot is already suffering from a lack of capacity attraction-wise...and with Soarin' about to go down for a major overhaul...well...this would be an extra heavy blow to my favorite park...but this is how Disney operates. Close something, offer nothing.

Bad form once again.

The article linked says a new sign has been installed in front of it - is this a sign for the new attraction?

Seeing the Walt Disney World is children friendly, dedicating a show to The King of Pop was a strange choice. IMHO.
WDW brought it back after MJ's untimely 2009 death. He was suddenly popular again - for awhile.

I'll be at Epcot on Dec. 6, so I may try to see it once more.

Aw, man, I had this on my to-do list for February. I've never taken the time to see it. Bummed. : (

Glad to see it go... Without going into details, Michael Jackson was a horrific person, who was too "family friendly" and yet has been given a pass for years. He paid off people to avoid jail, he acted in a very non-Disney way on many occasions, if we accept the paid off allegations as true. It should never have been brought back, and an empty building is far better than a monument to child abuse.

Personally, they could throw some paint on it, and play classic Disney movies, or something like it, until they build something new. Maybe even The Black Hole.

Wasn't on my itinerary this trip because I'm not a big fan, but may take it in for DD9 and/or DS5 when we're in EPCOT 12/5 and or 12/6. I won't be sad to see it go, but I concur with others that it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to close an attraction in a park with so few attractions to begin with, without having something at least planned for that space. Capacity matters.

We're going in January after Soarin closes and I'm worried about how lines will be at other attractions. Sure it's January so hopefully it won't be insanely crowded, but still. Another empty building doesn't add any value to the disney experience.

The rumor is that this is being done to kick off a revitalization project for Epcot.

Does not compute.

I always associate Epcot as the park that Disney forgot existed and has allowed to collect dust.

Will it finally receive the TLC it's needed for 15 years now?

I agree with you. It is a terrible attraction and that's coming from a ex MJ fan in her teenage years. Here's to a new Epcot attraction very soon...........
