Captain EO Faces The Final Curtain

It was rad when I saw it as a child in the 80s, but I feel it over-stayed it's nostalgic appeal. If we are going retro, I would love a 3-D journey back through the old Future World rides. Not going to happen, of course. Continual Disney movie loops would be fine by me for the cheap way out, though they would have to rename the pavilion (Lack of) Imagination.

I can't believe nobody has said this yet. Captain EO is/was terrible. I grew up in the 80's and liked MJ, but they could show a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse from the 50's and it would have more relevance then this hunk of junk.

All I can "say, say, say" about that is "you are not alone" in that sentiment. It was really "bad" imo....time for EO to "beat it."

"I never can say goodbye" quick enough to EO. Even though it's "human nature" to miss something after it's gone, I know I won't be thinking "I want you back!" :crazy2:

Not sorry to see it go. I also don't think they are closing it and have no idea what they plan to do with it. I'm sure they have something in mind they just aren't announcing it yet.
It's a decent size building to repurpose into a meet & greet for A&E since there doesn't seem to be much room in Norway - may help congestion everyone has been so worried about. Just a thought.

They're already building a new meet and great area for A&E as part of the Norway construction, so they won't use the EO building for that.

They might have something in mind for the space, but why shut it down now and have it sit empty? Especially since Soarin' will be unavailable for 6 months.

It will probably end up like Backlot Tour, which was closed over a year ago, and still no construction at HS. I'm sure it's just Disney being cheap...yet again.

Eo is closing? Thank goodness! Saw it last summer, it was painful - in a very creepy, nasty way. Jackson was such a whackadoodle, a talented one, but a whackadoodle nonetheless. I waited until my children were adults before we went in to see this show.

i'll be there on the 5th so at least my sister and i will see it one last time!
we were going to wear out figment/dreamfinder xmas shirts but we may have to reconsider.

Graphically, they could have done a lot better. I had seen it back in the 80s so I went back to see it when they brought it back and it was awful. I wish they would bring Magic Journeys back, if only for a 1 or 2 year run. I'd like to see that one more time.

Disney Parks Blog says they are going to be using the theater to show Disney/Pixar shorts in 3D. It's something!

Didn't people read the article linked from the OP? It says clearly you'll get a new massage there. I'd think a massage makes for a really innovative attraction, though personally I don't like them.

It is actually going to still be a 4D experience. So no new movie but a fun reprogramming of the 4D elements to allow them to use the Pixar shorts. It is smart and would be easy to refresh every few months with different shorts, perhaps they won't even guarantee which ones you see and they will always be changing.

I'm sad to see Captain EO go but it is way past its prime. We always went for a good Air Conditioned chuckle.

That will be good because it'll give me another fastpass choice. We fped Soarin, single rider TT, walked into Nemo and Crush, so besides Figment, there really weren't any other choices besides Spaceship Earth and Mission. We do the Disney Visa M&G so we don't even need the character. I think it will be at least another choice.

You're right - it did say 4D. I guess I missed that. That'll be fun.

Well, Pixar shorts are better than nothing and at least they are going to use the 4D theater capabilities. I wonder which one's they will be showing.

Phew! For a moment there I thought we might be getting "Honey, I shrunk the audience" back. :scared: Just kidding. That was kind of fun, too.

Thank goodness! I was not looking forwards to having to explain to my parents and in-laws why a movie that was pretty bad back in the 80s was still playing at Epcot. Hopefully the new Pixar stuff will get up and running quick and we might be able to catch some of it!
