I have done a lot of internet purchases in my life time......BUT...

I have yet to see any site ask for as much information as this one, and personally I backed out at the last minute as I just didn't feel comfortable giving all of the information required. I believe that they asked for just about every question to hack my account but my mothers maiden name
I don't understand the need for the additional information nor know if I'm willing to give it.
Did anyone else have any difficulties with this? It bothers me to give out all of this information, especially to a company that is overseas. Do they really Need to know, my security code on my card AND the 800 # listed on my card for Customer Support and the Bank that issued my card? The above information would give someone access to my entire credit line? Most only require zip codes and that is obviously on the address provided.

not so smiles..........Patty

Boy Patty the maiden name thing is a bunch of#@#$%!.

Who was the person you spoke with? There have been several good experiences with them I hope there has not been a change in their operations.

If you read it.....they asked me everything BUT... my mothers maiden name. I was using their web site. It was mandatory that you listed all of the information I listed above.

Credit card
Credit Card Number
Credit Card Security Code
Issuing Bank
1-800 # for customer service on the back of the card

I didn't call them........maybe I should, and they would just ask
for the normal information......... I really didn't like putting all of
the above info on a website.......

I hear you. I just gave them my amex card info, I have had excellent service with amex on contended charges so felt comfortable.

Hey if you ever get the chance you will have to visit your friends, it is a really nice area once you figure out the traffic.

Patty: The security code thing is not new, alot of companies ask that now when you order online, I've found. 800 number? well...

You're right, that WOULD make me a little nervous givng that information to an overseas company, but they aren't asking anything that a US company would ask anymore.

See what other posters say. I'll be watching, we wanted to do the same excursion.

Patty, we are also booked with them and I spoke to a lady named Ruth several times before hand (regarding other questions) I don't feel they are out of line. I also just booked international airfares with British Air and domestic with Frontier and they asked the same questions. JMO. I felt comfortable booking with them as did quite a few other 9/28 cruisers.
I am sure if you called and spoke with Ruth you would feel better. We had lots of positive feedback about them. In fact nothing negative. :D Elaine

You've had companies ask which Bank issued your card and the customer service 1-800 #?

I'm not saying that Capt. Marvins is a bad company.......I just think that the information asked gives them way more access to my account......than people need know. I understand the security code, because they are verifying that you are the HOLDER of the Card and someone didn't pick up the info on an imprint or something.

Many years ago someone stole my husbands wallet off the table of Chuckie Cheese of all places. The man called and offered to give my husband his wallet back.....says he found it outside, but the humor of that was he paid for the pizza so had it inside the restaurant with him. Anyways......the man called to give it back, because DH had already called and cancelled all of the cards. The man had the audacity to tell my husband that he had already called to find out the remaining balance on our cards so it wasn't worth it for him to keep them because we had cancelled them so quickly.....

the issuing bank and the 1-800 # along with your account number gives someone access to your credit........
Personally, I don't think that is anyone's business but my own.

Many online companys now ask for the 800 # on the back. I really don't think it would be much of a security issue since it is a posted number for the issueing bank. I'm sure the banks may want more information from a company that is based outside the US before it hands out the money requested.

I don't have a security (pin?) number for my credit card, only my debit card. My bank just recently sent me a letter saying they would send me a pin number for my credit card and the only time I would need it would be to get a cash advance against my credit card.

I had planned to use Capt. Marvin's but I'll use my credit card and won't be giving my pin number to anyone. I can see that they might want the 800 number in case of a card problem but I agree with peagreenid -no one gets my account number, pin number and phone number of bank, overseas or not.

Yes, you do have a security number on your credit card, and it is now very common for them to request it (they often use it when you buy something in a store now a days). Look on the back of your credit card and there will be a printed number on the signature bar. Depending on the credit card, they will have your entire credit card number or just the last four digits. This is then followed by a three digit number. This three digit number is the security code on the credit card and it is used to assure that the person has legitimately obtained your credit card number. Could this information be misused? Of course it could, but it is no more likely than any other merchant you deal with who can copy the same information down off your card when you hand it to them. The information they have asked for is all contained on your credit card itself.

I was not asked for the 800# or a pin# when I booked with them last year. The thing that DID bother me was that their website WAS NOT secure. It did not have the little yellow padlock on the bottom, therefore I did not input through the site and called instead. I WOULD NOT give anyone a cc# and pin# via an unsecure site... too many hackers could have a field day.

Just an FYI on that 3 digit code. Pretty soon it will be REQUIRED on all phone/internet transactions. Businesses that provide it pay a lower rate to the CC processing clearinghouses, and many of them will be requiring it in the future. We just updated our software at work, and I was told by the clearinghouse that this will be mandatory in the future.

Oops, sorry, I thought they were asking for a pin number. Yes, I've given out that security code before, I'm ok with that. I agree that it's nothing more than what other's have access to when I use my credit card. But I won't be using it on an unsecured website, like Pugdog007 said. I'll call it in. Thanks for the warning!
