Capt. Jack's Wenches (&swabbies) lose the weight for 8/08 Getting our Magic back!

THIS is what I needed today :worship: Feeling a little blah ... and frustrated that the size smaller clothes I bought as a reward are just a bit beyond snug :headache: I need to get back into my routine ... and I've got a gazillion reasons why I can't. This week I'm in a major cleaning frenzy mode. We're sellling our house and it's going on the market next week. Cleaning burns calories, right :confused3

Ok, here's the deal ... I'm going to get myself a BIG glass of water (instead of grabbing another diet coke) I'm going to stay away from the vending machines here at the office this afternoon. And I'm going to see if there's a new FIRM video that I don't have that will motivate me to get back on track starting on Monday after the realtor snaps the pictures and we go into "maintain" spotless house mode, instead of the current "get the house spotless" frenzy.

Honestly, I don't have a ton of weight to lose ... 15 - 20 lbs is my goal. I should easily make that by TOAL (a little less than 1lb per week should get me there). And this time of year is always best for me to get into my routine and actually STAY in it. The fall/winter always throws me for a loop. Do any of you find that a certain time of year just *works* better for you to maintain diet/exercise goals? :confused3

Kandi

Hi Kandi,
Yeah, I have noticed that this time of the year works best for me too...You are lucky that your smaller clothes are just a little snug. I cannot really get into mine yet :(

I always have a hard time during the fall/winter, so when things start warming up and the weather is nicer outside it makes it easier to get out. The best thing for me is that DH and I go to the gym together, so that keeps me motivated/forced to go. LOL

I have officially reached 25 pounds lost a few days ago. I would like to lose another 25 by mid-August, but it's a start! I keep thinking, "a pound a week, a pound a week"!

:yay: 25 lbs That's Great! :yay:

bump

How is everyone doing?

I'm doing OK. Down 8 since New Years. 5 more and I will be happy - 10 more and I will be ecstatic!

...although the Easter Bunny Reese's Eggs are calling my name...

I hear ya! I had a few of those on Easter....not good.
I wish all I needed was another 10 pounds....but with me I am shooting for another 20 by the TOAL and I will be happy....25, then I will be ecstatic too! I keep thinking that i have still such a long way to go!

My thing isn't the # of lbs., at this point, it is the % of weight loss, like on The Biggest Loser. 10 lbs. on me is a bit more than 8%.

A little over 4 months to TOAL, 20 lbs. is 5 lbs. a month. That's do-able. If you can average 1 lb. a week, which is healthy, you'll be there! Don't get discouraged.

OK, so really only 5 down from normal life. I pretty much gain 5 lbs. every December by eating cookies instead of working out.

Congrats! Are you where you want to be for the cruise, or do you have some left to go? From what you've said before, you have to be almost there! :thumbsup2  :yay:

My pounds have been alot slower coming off....it's like my body is fighting me, not wanting to budge from where its at. Where I used to lose 7-8 pounds a month, now I am lucky if I lose a few. I did reach my 30 pounds lost, but it has been weeks at a stand still. I am about at 32 now, :yay:
but I still wanted to lose another 20. Looks like I will be lucky if I can get in another 15. I guess I still have 16 weeks left, so we'll see what happens!

Okay...I have been delaying and stalling and promised myself that I would get serious about losing weight and then I found this! Destiny?

So, I actually weighed myself for the first time in months and I am at my heaviest ever (besides being 9 months pregnant!). SO, time to get serious, right? We have less than 4 months and I want to lose 20 pounds. I have never dieted before and used to not have to try and I was a nice 115lbs or so. But alas, no more. So anybody got any advice for a 38 year old, mom of 5, full time worker stressful job (mortgage business, fun!), executive traveling husband, with youngest child 3, oldest 16. WHERE DO I START???

I did really try to eat breakfast this past week, but I need to fit some exercise in. I have had a membership to the YMCA for about 1 year and have used it. HELP! What works for you?

Thanks in advance and have a great day everyone!

I am currently on WW but unfortunately, had the flu for over a month on and off..I need to get back to exercising. WW has worked for me but mostly..what works is just not having it in the house! I trying not to buy things that will tempt me. Also..water water water! I have lost 14 (I know that sounds good but not in the time it took me) I wanted to fit back into my wedding dress for the cruise but have accepted that I won't. All I can do is get back on it and do the best i can.

Hang in there!

Well, its Monday and I have to do something today to start. So I am going to go to the Y and see what I can do. UGH, wish me luck!

Hang in there! Any start is a good start, right?

I am actually jealous that you can be 115 without really trying---no fair. I have not been that weight since high school. I know that for me, water and exercise have really helped. I am also on weight watchers, so the accountability of being weighed every week gives me something to strive for. The meetings are motivational too.

I have lost 35 so far, and want to lose another 16 or so before vacation time, but I have not worked out at all this week so I am feeling like a failure right now. I guess the only thing I can do, is make the best time out of the rest of the week (Friday and Saturday) and do better next week right?

Well, I guess "keep moving forward" may apply here. 35 lbs is GREAT. That is a huge accomplishment. I think you are right, I have been told by many people that weight watchers worked for them, so I may have to give that a try. How does it work? Do you just eat their frozen meals? I really have no clue.

SO, one of my employees and I got a schedule of the work outs at the YMCA and picked 3 to do per week. We have a spinning class, a body pump class and zumba (a latin style aerobics class). We did this on Tuesday and we actually went to our Wed. and Thurs. classes. Thank goodness we don't have a class today! I am quite sore, but I feel great! We actually put the classes on our work calendar and our office is very supportive. So, I am making progress.

Now, I just need to find something to do over the weekend.

the nice thing about Weight Watchers is that you eat your own food. You pay a weekly fee to go to a meeting which offers helpful tips etc. There is also the weigh in at the meeting. Each food item has a point value. you get so many points per day based on your weight. You have to track the "points" you eat in a day. there is also a program thru WW called core which allows you to eat the core foods and only so much of others but to be honest..it didnt work for me so I have always done the point system.

if you go to their website it explains a lot including locating a meeting for you.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the advice. I have now done 3 days in a row of physical excercise. Today was just a mile walk with DD3 and fiesty Golden pulling me along. But it is something! :) The weekend will be difficult as alot of kids running around and not a lot of free time to exercise. So maybe I will do Dance Dance Revolution. It is better than nothing! :)

Thanks again, I need someone to keep me on track. I appreciate it guys!

I agree - exercise is tough to fit in to life sometimes. I only have 2 kids, but I also work full time, commute 2 hours a day and truck the kids to their various activities.

As difficult as it is - set aside time for YOU! I go to the gym after dinner most night. Not ideal, but it is the only time I have. I usually do classes because there is a specific time I have to be there -otherwise I'll put it off until it is too late to go. :) The best thing you can do if force yourself to go for 2 weeks - once you are in the habit, you'll start looking forward to the "me" time.

You could also set a goal. Not a weight loss goal, an acheivement goal. Decide you are going to walk a 5K and sign up - you'll train for it!

Weekends are for fun stuff with the kids!

I lost 27 lbs. on Weight Watchers points online. I didn't go to meetings, I think they would annoy me & even at my biggest (25 BMI), I was probably the size of some people's goal, so I was afraid of meetings! I like that you can eat whatever you want as long as you stay under your points allowance. It is also great exercise motivation - you get extra points to eat when you exercise!

That is my fear with the meetings, I run into it at the office too! It is hard to tell people you want to lose weight when you maybe don't have all that much to lose. I am really trying to be in better shape and healthier!

So, update, I walked on Fri and Sat for 1 mile pushing DD3 in stroller. I tried to go at a decent clip. Sunday, Nothing. :(

Today, I had some work issues so I missed my class, so I did 30 minutes on a bike while reading. It is something!

So, I am still doing it. It is great for me to have someone to be accountable to. My friend at work and I are good for each other!

:)

I am going to check out Weight Watchers online now! Thanks for the tip!

Ok you two...it's like i'm trapped in that Jenny Craig commercial with that one person saying.... "i was a cow in a size 4"

WAAAAAAAAAAA :rolleyes1

PS i'd even settle for a 27 right now...

Do you need some accontability too? That is my biggest struggle, it is so easy to make excuses...
