Is the clambake really good at Cape May and is it worth the money. Also, does anyone know how much adults and kids cost?

Thanks

Can't quote the current cost - but we went here in 2001 with eleven people and everyone raved about this buffet. Something for everyone.

DD and I particularly liked the Oreo bon-bons available with the desserts. DH liked the nice, quiet bar to the side where we could wait for our table.

In a word, yes.

Best dinner buffet for quality of food in WDW, IMO.

As Harambe mentions, the oreo bon-bons are worth the price of admission alone.

Cost, I think is around $25 - $27 for adults and either $11 or $15 for kids (ours is 4).

I've posted before on this one.........but our crew believes this place is way over rated..........average average average............aside from the Desserts..........

:guilty: :guilty: :guilty:

We are from NE...and I agree w/ the PA poster..... everyone raves about this buffet but we were not too impressed either. For one thing, the "steamers" they advertized were little neck clams, NOT steamers. Anyone that knows clams knows those are 2 VERY different clams. And the clam chowder was not thick and creamy, but it was ok. And probably if you're not use to some of the typical NE fare....you'd be very happy with it. My dh did say the chili was very good. And they do offer a variety of foods at the buffet. But my fav. buffet hands down is at Crystal Palace. The salmon is ALWAYS outstanding. Everything is fresh, hot and delicious. And you get chars too!!! Book a lunch there, you'll love it!

The last two trips we have had dinner here. My DH and I have been pleased. We took our my brother and law, wife and three kids in Dec and they enjoyed it too. The kids ate better there than any other restaurant we ate at. Good service, good food( I have not found anything at WDW to be great food overall). One of the men working at the buffet kept my DD who is one entertained by waving at her... when we left he noticed she dropped her pacifer and "ran" out to give it to us.I too loved the Oreos. THey are extremely nice to young children.. we have been able to take strollers in for tired babies and they find out of the way spots for us to sit. Which has made for better meals for the adults!

I would say my favorite WDW buffet is Boma's.
But Cape May is not bad. We met another Dis couple there around a week and half ago.
I am not a clam person. The other couple has been coming to WDW for several years. The DW mentioned the clams there use to be the large ones. And the ones she ate were puny looking. But she enjoyed them. (And some of her clams were empty too.)
In addition to the Clam Chowder they had Cream of Mushroom soup. It was VERY good. :jumping4:
The food this last visit I thought was the best I had eaten there. It seemed fresher this time.
I always warn others that the BBQ sauce is next to the brown gravy. And under those pink tone heat lamps they can look very similiar. Just make sure you are not pouring BBQ sauce over your mashed tators. ;)

We allnoticed too that the dessert area has slimmed down quite a bit. They just had a buffet like side counter. Nice selection. Just fewer choices.

It's not Legal Seafoods.

It's not even McCormick & Schmicks.

Maybe on par with Red Lobster?

It's good food for a decent price, actually a pretty good value.

Casual, come as you are, and eat all you want.

IMHO if you like seafood it's a good place to have a casual meal with something for everyone.

I agree with the other posters who say it is average at best. We ate there twice in October. My father joined us half way through our trip and he really wanted to eat there. He knows his food and seafood and I know he was dissappointed. The clams were very tiny and most of the shells had no clams in them we would discover after sitting down at the table. Not to mention that our server "Hector" (he was so bad I still remember his name) was the worst ever!! I love the clambake idea but I would like to see the menu revised a little.

Ms. ojo: That is funny. When I mentioned this clam bake to my husband his comment was: "we are from Maine, why would we want to go to Florida for a so-called clam bake"? Needless to say, we skipped it last year. I am interested in the oreo bon-bons and my husband loves red meat. Are the non-seafood items worth a visit? princess: pirate: :earboy2:

Cookie,

Not really in my opinion.

They had Prime Rib for a while at the carving station but it has been replaced with Top Serlion...The Pork Ribs are very yummy and tender!

But...The OREO BONS BONS are :cloud9: and keep us coming back year after year!

Enjoy

I guess I would say the NON-seafood items were ok....but I wouldn't rave about them the way I do the Salmon at Crystal Palace. It is consistently outstanding.

When we were at the Dolphin for a conference I booked 3 meals for us at Cape May buffet. After the 1st, we cancelled our other PS's. That tells you something.

A place we DID love was the Big River Rock (I think that's the name) over on Boardwalk. GREAT burger and steaks. Yummy appetizers...and ok, we each had one local brew and that tasted good too. :smooth:

We went in October-- I was all set to love it---- but unfurtunately we didn't. The shrimp were mealy and the mussels and clams were like rubber. The rest of the food was ok, but definately not great. Dessert was really good though. Would I go back? Only if someone I was with really wanted to go, because there are a lot of better choices at WDW.

The service has always been good for us. It's a quick in and out with no characters. Decent location. It usually has something for everyone.
That's mostly what makes it popular.

Sometime last year we with with a couple and one mentioned to the carver about Prime Rib.
She was told it was Shank.
I don't know my meat cuts enough to know the difference as to what Shank is as opposed to another cut. I pass on it anyway. They carve it like most restaurants do a prime rib station.

We too are seafood lovers from New England and had heard a lot of mixed reviews. We were staying at YC last May and decide to try it. Well it is not the best seafood, but there is a good variety and plenty of it. We actually liked it, the kids loved the kids selections and so we are planning to return when we go back to WDW in April. Try it. If you do not expect a lot you won't be too disappointed. Jay

PS - It may be a bit pricey for the quality, but everything at WDW is pricey, so it is about the same a s other restaurants.

For everyone that is raving about the bonbons. They are very easy to make. Crush one package of oreas very finely (including the cream centers) Mix these crumbs with one package (8oz) of softened cream cheese. Shape into an 3/4-1 inch ball. Dip in melted white chocolate (or vanilla almond bark) cool on waxed paper. Enjoy.

I don't want to even THINK about the calories!!!! But thanks for the temptation. I bet the kids would love them.

The first time we ate there I'd heard so many good things about it that I was expecting too much and disappointed. It was okay, but not great.

The second time we ate there we'd cancelled a different PS because it was raining and we were staying at BCV and could get there w/o getting wet. I enjoyed it a little better that time. I could make a meal on that broccolli slaw and corn bread alone. The rest was pretty good too. Granted we're from Kentucky and have never been to a real clam bake.

We ate there again in June and everyone enjoyed their meals. I guess it's growing on me.
