Cape May worth the trip?

On our departure day, we have a 3pm flight so need to get DME around noon. I was thinking it would be nice to have a good breakfast at one of the resorts. I really wanted Kona Cafe, but we will have eaten at Ohana the night before and it seems silly to go back to the Poly. We're staying at WL so I know Chef Mickey's would be easy to get to, but we've done it before. The kids don't like princesses or Alice so 1900PF is out. They seem interested in Cape May, and I'd love to walk around BC because I think it might be a place we'd like to stay sometime. Is it worth the trip from WL? What's the best way to get there and what's the approximate travel time? Thanks!

Cape May is a nice breakfast buffet with Minnie, Donald and Goofy...all dressed in beach attire..soo cute! The food is very good and the atmosphere is bright and cheery. If you have never been to the Beach Club then I think it is absolutely worth the trip. This is a beautiful area of Disney with the Boardwalk just across Crescent Lake (I think thats the correct name??) To get their from Ft. Wildnerness...maybe take the bus to either EPCOT or HS and then you can walk or take a boat to the Beach Club. Another way would be to get a bus to DTD and then change buses to Beach Club. That would be your options if using Disney transport....however it isn't super time efficient so I would suggest taking a cab so you get there on time and don't waste a lot of time. The Y&BC are beautiful resorts with an amazing pool and the Swan and Dolphin are a short stroll away too. It is our favorite resort area...we LOVE it! Good luck and enjoy!

We've done Cape May a bunch of times and really like it. It is probably our favorite breakfast TS, with 'Ohana a very, very close second.

To get from the WL to Cape May, the easiest (but most expensive) way would be to take a taxi. You can also boat to the MK and then transfer to a Beach Club bus, or bus to the MK and transfer to a Beach Club bus. I'd estimate 45 min to 1 hour of travel time each way for the bus/boat options, and 15-30 minutes each way for the taxi, depending on wait times for each leg of transportation.

Have you considered going back to 'Ohana...the dinner experience and the breakfast experience are very different. I wondered the same thing on one of our past vacations, too...back-to-back 'Ohana ADRs...but it worked out great. I didn't think I'd like the breakfast served family-style, but I really did. And the character interaction was terrific!

IMHO, it is not worth all the travel time and hassle to go to the Beach Club just for a meal when 'Ohana and Kona are right there. It is going to be hard to get packed up, get to and from breakfast all the way over at the BC, and be ready for a 12:00 DME pick-up. Going to the Poly may give you more time to relax, get breakfast, take some last pictures, do a little shopping, etc.

Have you considered going to Whispering Canyon in the WL?? That would be a GREAT time and sanity saver! I've never been to WC, but when we were staying at the WL I wished I had booked an ADR. Every time I walked by, it seemed like everyone was having a lot of fun.

It would absolutely be worth your while. Cape May Cafe opens it's doors at 7:30am so if you could get a early ADR that would be good. After you are done with your breakfast, you could walk around the BC/YC area or walk over to BW and walk around there (just a short walk across a bridge). That whole area is so beautiful and as long as you don't plan on going to a park that day, it would be so worth it to visit. Cape May Cafe is one of our favorite character breakfasts and is a must do for us each trip. Enjoy!!!! :goodvibes

Thanks for the replies, everyone! My kids don't like Lilo and Stitch at all, so I ruled out O'hana. And we're doing Whispering Canyon for dinner one night so I'd rather not do breakfast there. I think I'll go ahead and make a Cape May ADR knowing I can cancel if we're too worn out to make the trip to BC or decide to do something different. We don't have any other character meals planned and my kids do like Goofy and friends but are never willing to stand in line to meet characters (at 7 and 9 they'd rather be on rides), so Cape May seems like a good option.

I read on another post that someone recommended taking a bus from WL to DHS then either taking the boat or walking to BC. I think we'll plan on that if the weather is nice but always know that a taxi is an option if we're in a hurry to get back.

Thanks again!

We did this on our last vacation...we were staying at POR. Loved the breakfast. Restaurant was calm and fairly quiet compared to Chef Mickeys...just what I like at 7:30am!! We wandered around the gift shop and resort itself. It was pouring cats and dogs so we didn't get to see SAB. We did ask at the front desk if it was possible to see a room as we would really like to stay at this resort next time. They took us on a quick tour of a room and we're hooked! Staying their August 11-17!!! Kids can't wait to visit the pool after seeing pics online. And of course we have breakfast and dinner scheduled at Cape May Cafe!

Another vote for Cape May! It has always been one of our favorite character meals--been there many times. The Beach Club is really great!

Cape May is our favorite breakfast!! It is our check-out day tradition. The area around the Beach Club is beautiful!! You can stroll around the beach, wander around the Boardwalk or check out Stormalong Bay.

We'll be trying Cape May for breakfast for the first time in September. My two year old loves Minnie, so this will be a lot of fun for her. But I wanted to point out (just in case no one did) that 1900 Park Fare has Alice, Mad Hatter, Mary Poppins, Pooh and Tigger for breakfast. No princesses. :) We went last February and it was really good. :thumbsup2
