Cape May price increase!! Yikes

Breakfast is not 35.99. No way.:scared1::rotfl: Maybe dinner. I just wonder though if the breakfast prices have gone up some as well.
From the Disney website page ( http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/magic-kingdom/dining/the-crystal-palace/ ):

Service:
Breakfast
Character Dining
Buffet
American
$$ ($15-$35.99 per person)

Dinner

It looks like $35.99 for an adult is correct.

I called to make sure. It is about 26.62. The rep was reluctant to tell me, since we don't have a trip planned till Sept. The 36 is the highest of the price range-probably the dinner price.

can we be clear: What are the new BREAKFAST buffet prices?:goodvibes

I really don't know!! This is crazy!! Maybe if they have gone up that much, they include a picture of some sort. I can't believe this though. Makes me kinda laugh though, no way ever will we pay these prices!! (We'll we never have, even yet, always free DDP)

Actually, no.

It says that breakfast is in the "$$" range, which covers the range from $15 to $35.99. If breakfast were $20.99 it would say the same thing, just as it would if the meal were $34.99.

From these pages on Disney's site, we simply can't tell what the price is.

As for that $40 price at 1900, that works out to be $37.99 plus tax, which sounds like it probably includes a "seasonal surcharge". As great as allears is, they are somewhat inconsistent about whether their reported prices do or do not include tax or surcharges. (It's a good bet that any meal price that ends in anything other than "99" or "00" may very well be a tax-included number.)

Ok, If you drive, there are so many choices for great food just off property. One of our favorites is Millers Ale House. They have great prices, huge portions, and if you drink, great drink specials. There is something there for the whole family and the food is top notch. The money you would save eating off property would be worth renting a car ( the car prices are laughable in Orlando )

I think we will be seeing more of these increases, not just at the restaurant level but everywhere.

It is a shame but as long as they keep filling the restaurants, they will keep over charging for them.

:scared1:

As crazy as it sounds, we changed a bunch of our june reservations from price fix restaurants to buffets because were on the dining plan and would never pay those prices. Bad thing is, it will drive tips to the point (family of 6) that we could just about buy dinner for THAT amount off site! It is crazy!

Add on the season upcharge for the plan as well, and it becomes a real splurge aspect to the vacation. Cant imagine doing many of the places we have booked OOP.

Actually those menu/prices I copied came directly from the menus posted here on the DIS, not allears.

You know what's funny. We stay offsite but have always booked meals at Disney for the experience and because we like trying all the restaurants. With these price increases, I wonder how many people staying offsite will choose to take their money elsewhere.

For our trip this coming Feb, I had Cape May, Liberty Tree, Biergarten and Boma booked. With those prices, I'm just going to cancel them and we'll eat offsite. (May still keep Boma though!)

For a family of 5 for our 10 day trip, we are talking a couple hundred dollars more to the food budget. That is insane. I like Disney restaurants, but not that much.

I'm thinking I may try Texas de Brasil instead one night.

I guess this is part of their new plan to limit the discounting they have been doing for the past couple years.

I agree with you. We are DVC members so we don't stay offsite. We have TIW so this saves us some. I agree that these prices are getting out of hand but unfortunatly people will still pay them and they will have no problem filling the restaurants.

By the way. Texas de Brasil is AWESOME. It's worth every penny and is 100 times better than any disney buffet.

rgf207 - that's great to hear about Texas de Brazil.

I have another question maybe someone can answer?

If the buffet price is $35.99 what is the total with tax and tip pp? I guessing like $45 a person! Is that right?

Yikes!

Hi we ate there Texas de Brazil also in Dec and it was great. go to their site and sign up and they send you a coupon for your visit also when you put in a birthday they send coupons for that too. one was 25% off meals and one was buy one get one. We had 8 people and they let us use both. not sure if that is all the time....good luck...it sure was better than some of the meals we had at Disney....but Cape May was ok but it was only 28.99 then I would not pay the new price....and we will be going back Feb 24...looking for places off site to eat.

A little quick math gets you to $44.96...that's with 7 % tax on 36 plus an 18% gratuity....

Wow...that is pretty out of control.

disney is really living in a dream world right now....they have been complaining about travel conditions and revenues for the last two years....but they don't seem to grasp that not enough people are currently in the mood or position to pad their coffers up to the level they are now demanding.

They discounted heavily last year....attendance was down 9%...revenue (the important number) was down 25%....

Could have called that one....the buy 4, get 3 crowd didn't spend discretionary cash...which was completely predictable.

Now the dining and ticket increase have put their expectations in a completely unrealistic category...there's not enough money out there right now for this.

but don't take my opinion for it....wait and see how bad its gonna get this year....attendance will be down double digits...and revenues will be off at a similar clip to last year.

And they will respond by crying, increasing prices across the board - again - and still not getting any more profit.

happy fridaypluto:

I thought that the lower price of $15 might be the kids' price while the higher one was for adults. It seems odd that they would post a range that means nothing when they can just post a price. I realize that it changes but couldn't someone update the website? I know, that website is odd...

When I first started reading this thread, I got a little scared until I realized, 'hey, it's already paid for!' We got the dining plan since it's our very first trip to WDW. Not sure if we'll do it again, if we ever get the chance to go back to WDW, but for this trip, it was one less thing to worry about.

Our kiddos LOVE crab legs! So I'm glad to hear the food is pretty good.

I wish we could get an updated price list on all the buffets. Something to laugh at. These prices will really raise the tip level for those who do tip 18 percent.

Where is Texas de Brazil located. We have always ate at Disney restaurants, but we may also be going off site. Getting way too expensive. Even with the TIW card for 4 at Cape May it was 140.00 with no drinks, just soda. Maybe it would have been better if the place was not so crowded. You had to wait in line for everything. I think I was there one of the first days of the price increase.
I am always telling my family I want to cook a meal in my villa. I love the kitchen and they tell me no way, they like to eat out on vacations, but we may be having a meal in for our next trip.
