We are wanting to do a seafood buffett and have our Jeep... Which would everyone suggest in terms of quality and price??

I always LOVE the Cape May clam bake. Give it a try. When My DG wanted peel and eat shrimp that had no seasoning on it the nice amn behind the counter came to our table with a huge plate just for her! The desserts are great and there is something for everyone.

I would recomment the Cape May. We love it there. The food has always been good and service is usually excellent.

We did the Cape May Buffet in August 03 and loved it. Our kids are big seafood eaters so it's a no-brainer for us.

Definitely would do it again.

Hi - not that I'm an expert or anything, but here's my family's recent review of the Clam Bake at the Cape May Cafe - hope it's helpful! :D

Dinner this evening was at the Cape May Clam Bake at the BC (in the same cafe where the character breakfast is served). This is a buffet, and I suppose that since 4 types of fish are offered, that's reason enough to charge more than for a character meal (I think it was about $24 per adult). Well, the general consensus from the fish-eaters (that's everyone but me), was that the fish was good, but not extraordinary. These fish offerings were: clams in a butter and garlic sauce, mussels in some other sauce, which no one can accurately describe to me (sorry!), peel & eat shrimp, and the fish 'o the day, which was baked salmon. If you wanted a bucket of crab legs, it was $11.95 extra, so everyone declined. For landlubbers like me, there was prime rib at the carving station (really tender and delicious), roasted chicken (looked good enough but no one tried it), and barbecue ribs (pretty good with extra sauce available). Then there were many, many salads: pasta salad (good), caesar salad (takers said it was delicious), green salad, cole slaw, a sweet slaw of julienne carrots, broccoli, and shredded red cabbage with raisins that was fantastic, three bean salad (DD liked this and a ton of shrimp), and a few others that I just can't remember. There was corn on the cob (so-so but that's no one's fault), mashed red-skinned potatoes, rice pilaf (good), green beans with bacon (yummy), and a few more things that I missed because there was so much. Then there was the kids' buffet of tater tot-like triangles, mini hotdogs (cute!), macaroni & cheese, pizza, and those chicken tenders that are so good that all the adults had some! DD was very happy with her special buffet, but as usual, the shrimp were her favorite - poor DH had to peel what seemed like hundreds while we were there!

Now let's talk dessert - the dessert bar was so awesome that it needs its own paragraph! The family favorite was the berry-topped flan - so light and delicious! A close second was the key lime tart - fabulous! DH loved the apple cobbler the most. My Dad said the chocolate cake was his favorite. There was also cheesecake, Oreo bonbons, blondies (DH liked these very much) and some tasty brownies. Too bad we were too full to taste them all! Well, DH was the only one who said he wouldn't go out of his way to eat there again, because he didn't feel that the fish justified the prices, but the rest of us really enjoyed it. So, whereas DH woud give it a B-, the rest of us felt it deserved a B+.

I'm a great fan of Cape May and dine there frequently.

I've also tried Angel's, Boston Lobster Feast, and Lobster Fest. All were as close to disgusting as food can get. The buffets are not kept up for cleanliness nor replenished food. The serving spoons were frequently completely immersed in the food product. How much are you going to eat out of a serving tray/dish that has a ladle or spoon that has been handled by how many people, completely covered by the food in the dish? Beyond gross.

The seafood is not of good quality. The lobsters are quite small, and frequently missing entire claws. They are always overcooked. The clams were filthy and inedible. The crab was completely overcooked and very small making it quite difficult to remove from the shell. The oysters were not fresh.

This was at ALL of the off site seafood buffets mentioned.

Stick with Cape May. It may have a limited selection, but the food is fresh, the buffet very well maintained and the place is clean!

We had the buffet at Cape May and an off site seafood buffet on our last trip. Off site was at Captain Nemo's. Cape May was $24.99/adult, $9.99/kids 3 & up, under 3 eat free. Captain Nemo's was $19.99/adult and kids under 12 eat free. Cape May was FANTASTIC and pleased everyone from my then 21 month old to my retirement age father. Captain Nemo's was good but not fantastic. For our family of 4 Cape May was $20 more expensive but had much better atmosphere, better service and better food plus. On that trip we were staying offsite at a campground in my parents RV and Captain Nemo's was right down the street but if staying on site, having to pack up and drive off site to eat where it's good but not as good as Cape May wouldn't be worth it (IMHO).

I would stick with Cape May for a buffet. We have been there many times and really enjoy the place. We just got back from disney and this time there were no mussels:( They told me this was just a temporary thing. We did dine off property at Landrys for a seafood dinner and this was very good too. Enjoy....:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
