Now we know why it was so difficult for us to get reservations at Cape May.
Luckily we got two 5pm ressies - week after Thanksgiving, opened at 5pm. We like to have ressies as soon as it opens.

For the hour we were there, lots of tables were empty. We go to WDW the same week every year & in the past, all tables have always been full.

We asked our server, why so many empties when so many people are trying to get ressies. She said the # of servers has been decreased, & also to prevent the buffet line from getting so long.

As tables emptied, many were not re-filled, continuing to leave empty tables.

Love the food, especially the crab legs & fried shrimp (fried shrimp on Sun & Wed). Servers were great. Hope we get ressies for next year!

My thoughts - DH & I, before retirement, owned a few successful businesses. Don't understand Disney's business actions here. If we had customers wanting in, we'd do what was necessary to get their paying butts in the seats! For instance, expand the buffet! All of those dollars never getting in - freaky! As for more/less employees, at $40 per person, & servers earning little over $2, that obviously is not a money issue for Disney!

Has the Sun and Wed fried shrimp been going an ongoing thing. I will be there in May and would only want to go on a day where there would be fried shrimp available.

That is interesting. When I made my ADRs this weekend Cape May was the only one I couldn't get the exact time I wanted for it. I thought that was odd. That explains it.

Seems like a poor decision on Disney's part to me. It would be hard to have not gotten a reservation and happen to walk by the restaurant around that time and see open tables.

We're eating there next Thursday. Any idea what the 'extra' items are for that night?

BTW, I had no trouble getting a reservation for the restaurant. I originally had one close to 5pm and then realized it was too early since we're having a late-ish lunch. A couple weeks ago, I changed to a time around 6:30. There were plenty of choices even that close.

I don't know about ongoing. However, on this board, I have seen many posts that the fried shrimp is on Sun & Wed, & that is what we experienced. It is really good. The breading is light & crisp, not that thick stuff used at many restaurants - not like the fish nuggets on the children's buffet.

Enjoy your trip! :cool1:

I "think" Thursday is fried clams. Last time we ate them at Cape May, they were like rubber bands!

I think Tuesday is fried calamari. Last time we ate those at Cape May, they were really good - not rubbery at all.

Don't know about the other days.

Lucky you to get a new ressie. For the 2 weeks prior to our trip, I tried to change one of our ressies (Sun nite, 12/1), & nothing 2 hours before or after my choice. Although, as I posted, there were lots of tables empty.

Enjoy! :cheer2:

Thank you Julie!

My biggest complaint is that the buffet lines are always long there, and they always run out of stuff because it comes out in small trays. Seems like they would be able to solve this type of problem if they wanted to.

Last week, the lines were not long & food was well replenished. I assume that is because the restaurant has limited the number of customers. I remember when the lines were horribly long, but not this time.

So, I think they have solved that problem, just not in the best business way!

If you like the food, you may want to give it another try with the shorter lines. Actually we either had a few people in front of us or no one. Must say that was much more pleasant.

Note - Only talking dinner; never went for breakfast.
