What to do, what to do?!? Which is better and why? DH and I both love ribs but we also love clams. I like the idea of being served the food at Whispering Canyon. (We have lots of character meals/buffets planned so the idea of not having to get up for food for a sit down mean is desirable....) And I keep thinking it'd be nice to see WL b/c we'll be there in December when it's all decked out for the Holidays.

So any comparison between the two? Is the food better at one than the other? How 'bout the ribs? Looking for fall-off-the-bone, scrumptious ribs. So does either (or both) have those!?! Oh and what's dessert like at whispering canyon when you get the skillet??

THANKS!
Oh ps - we'll have 2 kids with us - 2 1/2 and 3 (almost 4)

I liked Cape May better. Better selection .Plenty of non seafood choices as well.

We did not go to Cape May Clam Bake but we did go to WCC. It was the best meal we had all week. My Dh picked up his ribs and they all fell off. I am not a huge fan of ribs (neither are my kids) but we all enjoyed them and ended up ordering second or thirds of the ribs. The shimp and cornbread were 2 other items that I do remember being exceptionally good.

The WL is something not to be missed during the holidays. Especially during dinner time on select evenings they have bell choirs and other Christmas music performers in the lobby. Whispering Canyon Cafe is required to be quiet during these performers and they sometimes play the music through their speakers- what a great Christmas experience! Not to mention that their skillet is great!!

I ate at both the first week of January two days apart, and Cape May wins hands down, and I don't eat clams or mussels. Both have ribs, and both were very good. But Cape May had more variety, after all, it's a buffet. They had a great fish, carved meat, and oreo bonbons. The dessert at WCC was great, but you only get one. There was a pasta dish, kid's choices including pizza and soups and chowder. Both resorts are gorgeous, but WL does win that fight.

I'm from New England, and I thought the Clam Bake was quite good.

The clams served at the Clam Bake were of the small littleneck variety though, not the bigger "steamers" or quohogs you'd get up here. They were still good, but I preferred the mussels.

I thought the kids selections were quite good, and I did get to sample the ribs and carving station. The dessert selection was one of the better we ones we had for a buffet too IMO.

We're going to the BC for DS4's 5th B-day at the end of the summer and will definately go to CM again (probably for their Character BF and Clam Bake).

I've never done WCC but have an ADR with my son for our "Boys Only" trip this May. I'll be happy to post a review when we return.

Enjoy the planning!!!

Cape May is great. We stayed at Beach Club two years ago, there were 9 of us, and we all liked the clam bake enough that we chose to eat there twice in one week.

We loved WC...great ribs...and desserts:) Plus, all the milkshake you could drink...:)

When we lived in Orlando and I worked for Disney, we would have Christmas dinner at Whispering Canyon and Mother's Day at Cape May. I like them both but for a real Disney experience I would go for The Whispering Canyon. I am also from New England and the clams are good at Cape May but let's say you have to wait a little while to be seated, there is no better waiting area on site like the Wilderness Lodge Lobby. You can even go to the lounge and have a cocktail while you wait or after you eat and just enjoy the view. A fun thing to do is ask at the information area for a list of the hidden Mickeys throughout the Lodge. No matter what age, it is fun to do. The food is really good barbeque. It is noisier than Capy May. My older daughter and I usually get a seat at the section nearest to the lounge. The salad dressing is really good and the desert is great. Though, we are too full. The ribs are outstanding compared to Cape May's. It's what they do, Barbeque.
We no longer live in Orlando but visit once a year in March..it's almost here!!! We always have a meal at The Whispering Canyon. To tell you the truth, other than Chef Mickey's and the Crystal Palace at the Magic Kingdom, the Whispering Canyon and Cape May would be the next choices for all you can eat dinning. Hope this helped with your choice.

By the way, I am new to the forums. How do you get all those neat jumping tiggers, mickeys and goofys. I think they are great!!!

Definitely Cape May Clambake. We hated WCC and won't be going back (unless we try lunch). Terrible service, 30 minutes past seating time, we were there over two hours and did not like the food--DH got sick on the chicken and/or ribs in the skillet.

Cape May is phenomenal. The atmosphere, staff and food are all, in my humble opinion, the best on site.

We did the skillet at Wilderness Lodge and just weren't impressed at all. Food was average at best and the atmosphere, though fun for the kids was loud and we felt rushed.

Never been to Cape May for Dinner . We love WCC we had good food & fun.

OP, we've not tried either yet, but we're staying @ BC in June and plan on trying Cape May then. From the wording of your post it sounds like you'd really prefer to try WCC. I'd go with that.:thumbsup2

It would be a toss-up for me between the two, except for the fact that you'll be there in December.

That makes WCC the hands down best choice. WL is absolutely amazing during the holidays... I bet it will be a meal you won't soon forget.

Just allow yourselves *plenty* of time to get there before your ADR time.

We were thouroughly dissappointed in CMC last trip. Loved WCC. Plus you are there in Dec. For us, the choice would be WCC hands down.

I'm enjoying reading all the various responses! I should keep a score card as it seems to be a good mix of reviews. I guess no matter which I choose I should be happy, eh? Someone mentioned that it seemed I was leaning towards Whispering Canyon. And I guess that is true only in the sense that A) I want to see that resort at Christmas time and B) like the idea of them serving dinner to us. BUT - I also like the clam idea. YUMMY! ANDDDD....I'm not sure I'm too into all the shinanigans I hear go on at Whispering Canyon. I'm not the type to enjoy being embarressed or even have much attention brought to me. So not sure how I'll feel about that part of WC. :confused3

By the way, I am new to the forums. How do you get all those neat jumping tiggers, mickeys and goofys. I think they are great!!!

I got those in the SMILES section! ;)
