I need help for a first night meal. We are a group of about 13 with ages that range 2 to 80. I have heard mixed reviews of Cap'n Jacks, and I am worried that my New England family will not like the food there. I have also heard that Raglan Road has live music, not sure if this would be good for the children in our group if it is really loud. Any suggestions or advise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I voted for Raglan Road. DH and I really enjoyed the food and music. I have eaten at Captain Jacks in 2007 and was not impressed with the food there. However, that was several years ago.

We have eaten at all 3 and I voted for Raglan Road. The music is not really loud but they do encourage you to sing along. There is a dancer later in the evening that performs too. My DS and DD loved it. We were in a side room so DS wasn't overwhelmed by the sound but we did take DD out into the main room to watch the dancer.

I would go there again for the scallops alone.

There are some pictures of our meals on my blog (link in signature). Once you are at the main page just click on restaurant reviews and scroll down to Raglan Road. There are also some from lunch at Cap'n'Jacks but that was for lunch last year and is further down the page if you are interested.

Hope this helps some. :)

I have only eaten at Cape May Cafe.

It was a good buffet, with lots of choices. Seafood, including crab legs and also non-seafood-roast beef, chicken and pizza. There were salads and corn on the cob. The desserts were very good.

Lots of choices so everyone should find something to eat and you can eat as much or little as you like.

I voted for Cape May Cafe: your New England relatives may or may not be disappointed, but there are actually a lot of non-fish items on the buffet there to choose from so they can avoid the "clam bake" aspects that might not meet their standards. And the dessert choices are wonderful there. But mostly, I'd say the buffet for the kids. We love Raglan Road - ate there last September, and don't get me wrong, it's a great place with fab food, wonderful entertainment & fantastic drink offerings. But it's first & foremost a bar, with lots of drinking, and typically loud bar musical entertainment (not a typical bar band, of course - it's Irish folk music, mostly...but yes, it is loud.) And yes, there were plenty of families when we were there, but frankly, with very few exceptions, the kids all looked bored silly - some to the point of acting up, and the babies were all crying, especially when the music was going on. Which is not all that surprising since the entertainment doesn't start until after 7:00 p.m. so most of the little ones were undoubtedly tired. If you are off in a side room, then maybe the music isn't too loud. But if you're in the main room, it's loud enough that you cannot have a conversation at your table. (and we were not close to the stage -- in fact, we were as far away as you can be & still catch a little glimpse of the stage. It's great entertainment, but it is LOUD.) If you really want to try Raglan Road, I'd say go early and be out of there before the band starts...or request the back room.

My vote would go to Raglan Road because the food is AMAZING and is hand's down our favorite place to eat at Disney. However, my advice would be to get an earlier reservation, if possible, since you have little ones in your group. It tends to get loud and rowdy later in the evening.

Skip Cap'n Jacks - food really has gone downhill. Between Cape May and Raglan Road depends on what you are looking for. Cape May is a "clambake" buffet. Food was good. Raglan Road has a different atmosphere. Inside is really nice, food/service was good and at night they have Irish step dancers.

I voted Cape May..It is our personal Favorite, and something for everyone on the buffet

Are there characters at the Cape May Dinner? And is it a Clambake every night? Sounds yummy!

IMO...Cape may is good in am~I am from New England and Clambakes, fish food, well never gonna be as good as here. Not even in disney. :-)
Cap N Jacks is ok, its like an applebees to me. just pre pre pared food they just have to warm up etc.

with your group you cant go wrong with raglan. We happened to come across it last year as a last minute diner res and LOVED it. We were sat right in front of the stage and a young girl did an irish dance, like from titanic. GREAT entertainment. dont have to worry about it being quiet with a large group cause everyone is having fun and going at it. LET me say I am a bread, potatoe, chicken eater and was not too happy to go eat irish fare...OMG! Food was AWESOME!!! Dessert to die for. Def go here if not the first night then at some point I promise you will not be disappointed. me and DH, ds(4), dd(7)...they didnt want to leave!!:dance3:

We've eaten at all three and would go with Cape May. We're not fans of Cap'n Jack's, but haven't eaten there in a couple years either, so don't know if it's improved. I adore the appetizers and the bread pudding at Raglan Road and in fact have never found one I didn't like. Unfortunately though, I have never been able to find an entree any of us liked there.:rotfl: Cape May we all like. Granted we're from the south and don't know alot about clam bakes, but we enjoy the clams, mussels, and crab legs, plus the non-seafood side has some really good options too.

To the poster who asked about it being a character meal, only breakfast is a character meal. They don't serve lunch and dinner does not have any characters.

Out of the 3, I've only been to Raglan Road, but I def. recommend it. It was our fave out of the whole week on deluxe dining! We LOVED the live entertainment and the adult beverage options (Smithwicks for dh, and Magners for me. :drinking1 ) The food was quite tasty too. :thumbsup2

Definitely not Cap'n Jacks...they are just continually getting worse and worse.

Of the other two, we've eaten at both and both are great. I voted for Cape May though because it's slightly more kid-oriented because the restaurant lighting is better there. There's also a ton of variety and the desert bar has tons of options that when we were there were 2-3 bite options, so you could easily try 2-3 choices :).

I did love my fish and chips at RR and I seem to recall the kids liking the restaurant ok. It was nice to walk around DTD afterwards and walk off the meal, but you can do that at the boardwalk with CMC, too...

I guess I'd say, if you can't decide between the 2, maybe pick the closest to your hotel that night.:goodvibes
