i know the characters are different....
but just based on food, which is better??

Not sure...I have heard good things about both so next trip, we are going to try both. I am eager to hear the responses you get.

We prefer Ohana. The main difference between the 2 is that Ohana serves "family style" at your table. Cape May is a buffet with greater selection but we still prefer Ohana hands down.

We much prefer Cape May. Unless the you'd prefer table service over buffet, I'd recommend Cape May. Did enjoy the Pineapple Bread @ Ohana, but otherwise it's fruit, eggs, bacon, sausages & waffles. Cape May has much more variety, is in a nice setting, and, for us a stronger lineup of characters.

Cape May is great, so much choice and good character interaction.

We hope to try Ohana for the 1st time next year.

Based on food, Cape May for the huge assortment

I love the breakfast at Ohana. The cheesy eggs are really good. The starter breads are so good. I love that they bring you everything and will refill it.

I would only go back to Cape May Cafe if we were staying at Beach Club (or the boardwalk).
Here is my DH's review of Cape May Cafe and Ohana
There are alot of pictures so you can see the breakfast for your self.

We've done both - and we'd choose Cape May Cafe. They do offer very different types of meals, so it depends on what you like. Here are some observations:

Cape May Cafe - Served buffet style with a huge assortment of hot foods, breads/pastries, fruits, yogurts and cereals. The food is fresh and excellent tasting. The characters are Minnie, Goofy and Donald dressed in beach attire. The place is very bright and colorful with tables and booths.

Ohana - Served family style where the server brings a platter of scrambled eggs, link sausage, bacon, breakfast potatoes. A separate server comes out distributing Mickey waffles (sometimes several minutes later which makes my boys cranky waiting for their food). The characters are Mickey, Pluto, Lilo and Stitch dressed in hawaaiin shirts and leis. CMs will hand out instruments and the characters will do a musical parade around the tables.

I much prefer a buffet where I can select from lots of food choices based on what I'm hungry for that morning. I thought the food quality at Ohana was just OK. Cape May Cafe is a must-do for us every trip.

I like Cape May just because it is buffet style instead of family style. Characters are great and we love the atmosphere, we actually are planning on going there this next trip :)

We have done both and enjoy both. These are my favorite Character meals. Ohana has the better quality food, but they have a smaller selection than Cape May. But, the food at Cape May was really good as well. The juice at Ohana was excellent, although I cannot remember what was in it now. I liked the seating arrangements better at Ohana. You may go with what you prefer - family style (Ohana) vs. buffet (Cape May).

We went to Cape May in March and really enjoyed it. The food was awesome (they have such a wide variety there) and the character interaction was priceless. Minnie Mouse was just goo-goo over my DD6 because my DD was wearing everything Minnie Mouse (my DD is her biggest fan). She kept giving my DD kisses and hugs and even sat down on my side of the table for my DH to take a pic of her, my 2 DDs and me....it was great. The other characters (Donald and Goofy) were equally as good too. As for O'hanas, we are going to be eating there this December. The food sounds great and the character interaction is suppose to be good too. My DDs are not too fond of Stitch, but loves Lilo, Mickey and Pluto....plus we wanted to try out a new character meal this time. I am also liking the fact that it is served family style rather than a buffet (trying to stay away from those this time as well).

We did both on our trip last month. The kids prefer 'Ohana, mostly for the better character interaction and the parade around the restaurant with the maracas. They also really like stitch. My husband and I preferred the food at Cape May and the swimwear on the characters is cute. Actually my son really liked Donald and Goofy at Cape May. Cape May was also less crowded.

I think the food at Cape May is better. It is a buffet and has a lot more selection. 'Ohana is family style and you are limited to the sausage/eggs/waffles standards. Cape May has yogurt and fruit and some other choices.

All that being said I still prefer 'Ohana, and I am not the sausage/eggs/waffles breakfast eater. If you get an ADR right around the time of sunrise and are lucky enough to get a window seat there is just nothing that beats watching the sun come up as you eat over MK.
