Hi All!
we are sailing on the Wonder out of New Orleans on Februare 14. Has anyone sailed on wonder out of NOLA recently? If so, about what percentage capacity was ship?

The Wonder is currently on her last sailing out of Galveston. She arrives in NOLA on Tuesday. There have been some very low numbers recently. Perhaps that will change with her shift.

Right now I don’t think capacity is the limiting factor.
There are 185 people in the Facebook group for this cruise, and it’s probably not going to be as empty as the last couple sailings (reports of around 300 passengers on the Jan 24th sailing).

Wow, 300 passengers on a ship with a passenger capacity of 2400? That's just under 13% of capacity!

I was one of the passengers on the 1/24 sailing.

The final count was 343 passengers on board. A total of 362 passengers were booked, but either didn't show or had a member of their party test positive for COVID. (These numbers came direct from the staff.)

Sure doesn’t seem sustainable. People are staying away in droves, hope Disney listens soon.

Not sure there is anything different they can do. People don't feel safe.

Perhaps, but theres another group waiting on the sidelines for onerous restrictions to be eased or eliminated. You’ve lost that audience by catering to the people who don’t feel safe even with the restrictions and still aren’t going.

Well, other lines like Celebrity with fewer restrictions are experiencing the same decline.

When we sailed on the Wonder in November, there were about 4 times the number of people onboard than there have been reported to be this week - with the same restrictions. So I think the group that doesn't want to sail due to current testing/vaccination/masking policy is much much smaller than the group that is concerned about this current spike. 2000-2500 people per day are dying with 70,0000 cases per day, probably more, actually, because of those that are testing at home. My daughter wasn't counted because we used a home test when she tested positive. So I really think it's just a matter of people recognizing that we are in the middle of a pretty serious spike. One that appears to be, thankfully, cooling down.

I think the biggest issue the last few weeks is how many people have had to move/cancel due to someone testing positive in their group beforehand (this happened to us). The Omicron numbers make the last couple years of the pandemic look like a joke. We're on the Wonder now and I was told around 750 passengers expected, so it's going back up. I expect the increased awareness of the 90 day recovered status will also help things going forward.

The final Galveston sailing had 730 passengers. Peter the cruise director said current maximum limits are 60% of total capacity, and they've hit it only once on the Christmas Wonder sailing.

I'm not doubting that the cruise director said that; I am highly doubtful that is a capacity max DCL has set. Yes, there were approx. 60% reported on a late December cruise. However there were some denied boarding, possibly some cancelled shortly before embarkation, and the cruise was still available to book online. I do not think DCL has limited booking capacity that low.

Disney caters to families with young children only about 28% of children in this age range are vaccinated. This limits the number of families that are allowed to sail.

I don't understand what you're saying. All families are allowed to sail. They can choose to not sail if they don't want to be vaccinated or if they do choose to sail, they need to get their vaccine. I'm not sure how 28% of eligible children being vaccinated impacts the operations of DCL.

100% of families could sail prior to Covid restrictions
now only
28% can = less people sailing

The minute you drop those restrictions and a COVID outbreak occurs onboard and an unvaccinated cruiser or 2 gets carted off in stretcher, you all of a sudden get banned from every non-US port and have nowhere to sail to. A lot of the restrictions are also in place because the Bahamas and other countries require them to be in place to dock the ships there. It has nothing to do with DCL onerous restrictions. Go talk to the Bahamian government.

I feel lucky to have snuck in our first Disney cruise on 12/26 before they started requiring the 6-11 crowd to be vaxxed. We felt so safe and I appreciated all of the protocols. My 8-year-old daughter is not yet vaccinated, not sure if I'll get her vaxxed before full FDA approval of the vaccine for kids (right now it is still just authorized under "Emergency Use" for that crowd). We have an Alaska cruise on the Wonder booked in late July, I'll be so sad if we have to cancel.

Royal does not require vaccinations for 6-11 year-olds, DCL does. Royal can visit all the same ports that Disney does.
