Capacity has been increased

I don’t think it will. It’s free data collection for Disney, formality or not. It lets them know what park you plan on visiting. It’s definitely not going away unless some sort of fastpass returns.
They already have that data through historical patterns. Back when I worked in restaurants before the days data analytics, we would keep track of the number of covers we would do and then refer to them the next year to determine staffing for the same time during the current.

Having to make reservations just to go to a particular park is one less reason for to return to visiting WDW

Sure. When you have reliable patterns. But a) patterns had been shifting in recent years and b ) post-Covid, at least for awhile, those patterns mean nothing now.

Oh boy. I'm guessing there's a certain "I ain't wearing a mask or getting vaccinated" crowd that will now use the parks. Plus added influx of patrons. I'm sensing a bit of a mess for my trip starting g tomorrow.

I know everybody says this... but do we have info direct from Disney to back up this belief? Not trying to call you out personally, but I keep hearing this and wonder if it is fact or urban legend? TIA for any sources you can provide!

No worries. I can understand the desire for a direct and reliable source of info, as we all would like to have. When it comes to this it is based on rumors and what I believe will be the case because it makes the most sense. I think Disney does realize they need to have more onsite perks to keep people on property at their high prices, and that is where a large part of my belief comes from. I do also wonder about the contracts they have with their 'good neighbor' hotels, and where that will play into it.

I do have a friend who works in parks and does leak me info from time to time, but not on this one. I've bugged them about it several times, and they won't/can't give me details on it as of now. If they mention something I'll pass it on if they allow it.
