Can't Miss Effects

Celebrate the Magic, and from what I've read I'm going to really love the Tree of Life Awaking thing for the same reason. Actually, any of the night shows.

Twilight Zone Tower of Terror - that ride amazes me with their effects especially when the elevator comes out the lift now if I can just experience that without the drops, I would be so happy
Also Little Mermaid ride (going under the sea part) and Enchanted Tales with Belle- the magic mirror I'm still looking closely on how its done
POTC - always amazes
and Celebrate the Magic is just incredible

Celebrate the Magic. The first time I saw the castle appear to rearrange and shift just blew me away. I love to watch that. And the Elsa part gives me chills between the effects on the castle and the music.

I also really love Tink flying from the castle because I just can't help thinking what an amazing (and maybe a little scary) job that person has.

Absolutely agree. Watched it for the first time last week. Chills. DW said it made her cry.

I can't believe I thought of this one. One of my favorite effects is in the Dinosaur Ride. Just as Dr. Seeker yells "Incoming!" and the pterodactyls are above you and you dart down out of the way.

Other favorites have been mentioned, like the ballroom at Haunted Mansion and the 5th dimension room in Tower of Terror.

Similar to this, but there are a few attractions that use that same sort of effect but build up some anticipation to it. Tough to be a Bug comes to mind, where you see the stink bug on screen and the second you do you know what's going to happen, so you just sort of brace for it and get that knot in your stomach that build until the 'payoff.' Another, perhaps unintentional, would be on Splash Mountain before the first real lift hill when you are to the side of the main drop. There can be a log jam there from time to time, and whenever a car goes down the drop next to you, a jet shoots water up right at a specific spot at the base of that lift hill. More than once I've been in a situation where, when you see the spray the first time, the whole log starts freaking out and trying to will the log to beat the spray.

Ah yes, collective, "oh no oh no, oh no. Drats!" moments.

I don't know why but I love the way the car spins around and presents you with the screen at TSMWM. Howdy partner! It gives me that yeah I am at Disney feeling! I love the shooting plates best

The Hitchhiking Ghosts! Such a cool effect.

On the most recent WDW Radio they were talking about this...if they can program the cars to go up and down fast, they could program them to go slow. The cars seat 21. Say there was a holding area off to the side where people who wanted the "gentle" ride could wait until there were 21 of them, then the next car would just be the 'gentle' car.

My very favorite is Haunted Mansion! I am returning as the organ player after I pass!!! I just can't get enough of that place!!!! Every effect in there is awesome!!!

If you want an effect that will simultaneously make you go "what in the?!" and wish it was at a USA park, look here at about 4:11:
.

The very end of Fantasmic, when Sorcerer Mickey appears at the top of the mountain. The combination of the rise in the music and the reaction from the crowd gets me every time. Goosebumps, butterflies in my stomach, tears in my eyes, you name it. It's just such an incredibly 'Disney magic' moment, to hear everybody around me gasping and clapping and happily pointing out Mickey that it's just really emotional to me.

Love Haunted Mansion. I know how the effects are done but the ballroom scene just amazes me every time. I wish my car would stop there for a few minutes so I could absorb every inch of it.

Hall of presidents is really cool. I love watching all the presidents move around in their seats.

I love all the details in the Pirate Ride. Some are just amazing - right down to dirty feet and hairy legs!

I know Peter Pan is a pretty tame and mellow ride but I still love how it "lifts off" and you are flying over London.

I know it sounds silly, and is not a "how did they do that?" type of effect, but the fiber optic lights in the sidewalk at Epcot at night, is my can't miss effect. It makes me so ridiculously happy, and I can't explain why. I love anything with fiber optic lights because of my memories of when I was a child in Epcot.

I just love seeing those lights, I have many happy memories of our daughter enjoying them when she was small.

(I used to be obsessed with those fiber optic strand "wands" we had during fireworks).

I'm also excited to see the new interactive queue for Peter Pan for the first time. From the youtube videos I've watched, that looks like it'll be a can't miss for me too.
Not a Disney thing but with your love of fiber optic lights you need to see an exhibit of fiber optic lights by Bruce Munro. His exhibits are held in many different places. I think the current exhibit is in Arizona. Google his name and you will get a taste of the fantastic and beautiful things he does with fiber. The exhibit here in Nashville a couple of years ago was stunning and unforgettable.

Thank you! That's amazing, I moved to CA from from AZ a few years ago, and still go back to AZ about every 3 months for work and family. I will definitely make it a point to see this!

ETA- I just google him, and I remember seeing the commercial for this on my last visit! It's at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. I was in awe and really wanted to go, but I was visiting a family member in the hospital, and them just forgot about it. Will definitely go see it!

Light a cigarette, try to get out of your Doom Buggy, take a flash photo, etc. Any of those things will bring the entire attraction to a stop! Of course, a CM will come out and scold you, and maybe even kick you off the attraction, but as they say, magic comes at a price....

The graveyard at the Haunted Mansion. I have been riding for 40 years and I still find different things every time.

The smell of Rome burning on Spaceship Earth.

Hitchhiking Ghosts in Haunted Mansion and any Peppers Ghost effect. Also I love the Enchanted Mirror effect in Enchanted Tales with Belle. It turns from an actual medium sized mirror to a video animation while the mirror gets bigger and finally transforms into a doorway. Also the wardrobe as you get assigned roles and the animatronic Lumiere is astounding. They move so fluidly and it looks like they are actually animated.

Haunted Mansion: The hitch hiking ghosts at WDW - so neat how they move around now. This isn't at WDW but the Hatbox Ghost (he is a WOW moment) in the Haunted Mansion at DLR. They really need to add him to WDW and add the hitch hiking ghosts (new technology) to DLR.
Soarin': The smell of the orange groves and pine trees (I hope new scents are incorporated in the new version!)
Hyperspace Mtn (DLR): Seeing the battle cruisers flying overhead and hearing the Star Wars music playing... It's like being in the movie.
