Why cant I loose weight? According to fit diet I can have 2,000 calories a day. Im usally at 1,000 or less. I walk to work every day (usally both ways so it comes out to be 2 miles), I try to run on the playground with the kids, I drink at least 24 oz of water, I try to only have ONE soda. Why am I not loosing?

My guess is this would be your number one problem. By having your calories at 1000 or less you are telling you body that food is in short supply. Your body is geared to say :scared1: Up your calories by 10% (dont do it all at once or that will shock your body as well) a week until you are at 1400-1600 calories and up the water intake as well 24 oz really isnt that much. I am sure others will have other thougths and tips as well. Just hang in there.

You can lose weight. You can.

My advice would be to join Spark People or Weight Watchers. It is a misconception that having healthy habits = losing weight. Having healthy habits helps your health, but losing weight is pretty much all about calories. And starving yourself is not a good strategy.

Join an on-line food journaling group and write down every bite you eat. And make sure you are eating at LEAST 1200 calories.

How much weight do you have to lose? If you are the cutie patootie holding the rose than you might be losing weight just really slowly because you are already thin.

I guess we need more info ;-)

Like MonkeyPants said, you probably need to increase your calories. 1000 is really low. Just make sure you are eating healthy foods.

And have you tried any sort of interval or strength training? There are far better alternatives than walking if your trying to lose weight.

The number of calories is only one small part of an overall lifestyle change (please not the lack of D-word). All calories are not equal. When you eat the calories is also important.

If you are not tracking your caloric intake I would start. Many people underestimate what they are eating because they don't know what a single serving of a meal is. For example, many cereals have a single serving of 1/2 or even 1/3 of a cup. Most people think a serving of cereal is 2 cups.

Exercise is also important. To lose weight you need a calorie deficit but it is better to eat much closer to 2,000 quality calories and expend more calories through physical activity than to just cut the calories without increasing activity. There are many reasons for this such as an increased resting metabolic rate from simply replacing fat with muscle.

Lastly, educate yourself. Just like most things in life, we only learn through study and practice. What I thought I knew about living healthy was either incomplete or wrong before I sought out the info on my own. Read read read and joining a group like those suggested by a PP will get you that education along with some practical advice.

Good luck.

I eat more than 1,000 usally. I do keep a jornal on fitdiet. right now Im waiting to see what my doc says about my knee before I try anything harder than walking.

Go back to the last thread that you started here. We all gave you great advice there. Resurrect that one instead of starting another one.

Frank is right. All calories are not equal. And at only 24ozs of water a day, your body is in dehydration mode. And while walking 2 miles is a good start, you need to up you pace. It will still be non-impact as you are walking, going faster won't hurt your knee.

Erika, how did I know you would be here? ;) You are right, we gave her great advice the last time, here is the link for anyone interested.

Sweetie, you really need to take a look at what you are doing to your body. You aren't eating enough, you know that. And as others said, all calories are not equal. You definately need more water. And while you are at the doctor, tell him/her what your goal weight is and how you have been trying to achieve that goal. I am confident that they will tell you your goal is unrealistic and that you are not doing yourself any favors.

I sincerely hope that you can get in shape and lose some weight in a healthy way. Thats what we are all about here at WISH.

My first reaction is that you are not eating enough. I did look at your last thread and came away wondering how much research you have done in order to choose a healthy and balanced food plan and if you have spoken to your Dr to determine what is a healthy weight for you.

There is no miracle diet, there are no secrets to weight loss and there is no easy fix.

I follow WW and have learned how to drink enough water to stay healthy and how to choose foods that are healthy and satisfying. Fitdiet will help you to manage your calories and will guide you in making smart choices, calorie wise. You need to do the rest, commit to learning how your body works, what foods are healthy, what is a realistic goal and then determine what you want to do in order to attain your goal. No one can give you that magic bullet, you really need to educate yourself and follow through.

I didn't read your previous thread but I just wanted to say good luck and yes you can lose weight! Try googling "BMR calculator" to get a fairly accurate number of the amount of calories you can eat just to function in every day life (just to maintain your weight without exercise). Also, how well do you try to drink one soda a day? ;) Are you talking about one can or a glass? That could easily be 300 calories and over 100 grams of carbs a day. I do think you need to drink more water as well (I should learn to take my own advice cause I don't drink nearly enough water every day). What else are you drinking? Many calories come from juices, milk, soda, etc. that you may not realize.

I walk 3-4 miles a day to maintain my weight (I'm 140, about 5'5") and eat between 1,600-1,800 calories per day. I also do 23 "girl" pushups that I up by 1 every week (I started at 5). When I eat a little crazy (yay donut day at work!) or want to get a little leaner (yay bathing suit season!) I go to the gym 4-5 times a week on top of the walking (my dog would never forgive me if I gave up the walks! :) ) for an hour to an hour and a half (but I LOVE the gym) and the extra 5-10 seems to melt off. Do everything you can and just work on it day by day. Health and fitness is a life long thing ( I know, it took me 2 years to lose 30 lbs.), not something to do for a couple of months to look good for pictures or fit into something.

Good luck!:goodvibes

I've read this and your previous thread and I do believe you're almost ready to begin your journey to a healthier lifestyle that includes safe weight loss. You've joined FitDay, you're asking questions here so you're trying to educate yourself, you have an appointment to see your doctor. Those are good indications of your seriousness.

As others have said, eating 1000 calories a day isn't healthy, you need much more water intake, and you need to pay attention to what you're consuming. I believe your approach to eating is depriving your body of much-needed nutrients. Please continue to follow PPs suggestions, especially to educate yourself. And don't be insulted the title, but I recommend starting with Dieting for Dummies as a very basic resource. (I've used these Dummies books, and the exercise DVDs, for various subjects.) You should be able to find it at your local library.

With all due respect, though, I think you need more support and education than what the WISH online discussion board can offer you. Don't misunderstand me. I think the WISH forum welcomes you and can be a great supplement to real-life support. It's not that there aren't a lot of knowledgeable people here--there are. You've gotten great feedback from the people on just this thread.

But right now your approach to losing weight suggests you would benefit from a more extensive, hands-on support system filled with people who can be with you in real life. Your strategy for losing weight at this point seems, frankly, unhealthy at best and dangerous at worst. And an online forum isn't an ideal medium to help monitor and address such behavior.

So I suggest asking your doctor questions about health, nutrition, and weight loss in addition to those about your knee and exercise. Have your doctor recommend a weight-loss group and recommended reading material. Or join your local WW or another group who will provide you with a mentor to guide you in your journey. These groups can help direct you to appropriate resources, answer your questions, and encourage & mentor you. Or perhaps you could hire a nutritionist to help you through these these early. I think that face-to-face contact will help you immeasurably in wading through lots of information and giving you the feedback you desire and you need to make safe, permanent lifestyle changes.
